Bob's Report on FABAC's St. George's Day Celebration

Since this was the second time we've held a St. George's Day pot luck supper, it's now an annual event.  It's almost boring to talk about the food as it's always great.  In keeping with the British theme, we enjoyed authentic Cornish pasties, Yorkshire pudding with beef stew-n-mushrooms, Shepherd's pie and several more dishes from across the pond.  Kelvin, his two daughters and Charlie (the house dog) hosted the gang in fine style and made us all feel at home. They outdid themselves this year with a number of brain teasers for the group to mull over during the evening.  These became a source of endless amusement as small groups whispered in hushed tones over the meaning of 'naked girl on a beach' and other brain teasers (It was a Sunbird?!).  While the answers were obvious once one had figured them out, getting there was a genuine laugh.  Even though it rained most of the evening, we all had a look at Kelvin's new Mini.  This is a fine addition to the club's stable and we all hope it becomes an event regular.

FABAC's Annual St Georges Day Celebration

OFFICIAL REPORT: IT WAS FAB!   Thanks, Kelvin!

Just a reminder that Kelvin Perry has once again graciously invited us to celebrate St Georges Day at his place on April 23.
Judging from the fun, delicious English food, great company and hospitality we had last year at Kelvin's will make this an event to attend.

 Here are the necessary details:
  • Pot Luck and BYOB (Kelvin says no need to coordinate pot luck contributions with him. As last year the pot luck theme will be British food)
  • Event starts at 6pm, dinner at 7pm
  • He lives at 69 Carriage Hill in Silverwood located off the Woodstock Road.  Here's the Google Map link
  • Kelvin will have a number of quiz's to tease your British automotive knowledge or not.
 Thanks,
        Gary

Amusing

I’d like to submit this timely Royal Wedding/St.George’s Day video for the FABAC website. It’s a hoot!.

A VERY strange E-Type painting

I guess you'd all better get used to a year of endless E-Type posts with it being the 50th anniversary and all.  This video is truly unique and defies description.

Jack Layton used to own a Sunbeam Alpine

Johanna Bertin passed this one on to us. Layton's experiences were probably similar to Bruce's and his Alpine. Read about it here.

Dwight has done a little research on storage of ethanol gasoline.

I found a reference in the most recent edition of Classic Motorsports magazine to a fuel stabilizer for ethanol gasoline. http://www.eastwood.com/ew-fuel-additive-storage-stabilizer.html

Also, Sta-Bil produces an ethanol gasoline product. http://www.goldeagle.com/brands/stabil/products.aspx
The product is sold by Wal-Mart and NAPA in the US where gasoline has contained ethanol for some time. I suspect that since other Sta-Bil products are available in Canada (eg Cdn Tire) and with the introduction of E10 here, this product will be coming to Canada.

I have no idea whether these products are effective but suspect that a web search of various US based classic car sites will shed some light on that question.
