Wanted: Gas cap for a Mini

I did the classic put gas in, drive away with the cap on the roof drip rail in my Mini. They are generic, I think an MGB one would fit.

Driveway Cars & (no) Coffee

I’m going to have to follow Ralph’s lead and send a “No Coffee, Not-In-Driveway Entry” as well.  I got the Little Blue Car out of hibernation about three weeks ago and did a few little things in anticipation of a drive.  One issue I noted for attention later was a very noisy fuel pump.  Two weeks ago I dusted Little Blue off and struck out for a short road trip.  I was back home about an hour and a half later compliments of CAA.  I think I now have the two issues causing the grief fixed but haven’t been able to do a road test yet.

The two issues causing the problem?  The electric inline fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator in the EFI throttle body.  Those parts, along with my coffee cup are pictured on top of the remote air filter cover.  What’s in the cup?  Gasoline!  J

Phil
PS: The pressure regulator is a Bosch part originally in a VW Golf.  Another part to add to the already eclectic mix of Mustang, Ford Ranger, Corvette, Cadillac, Kubota, Fiero, Camaro, Buick, Nissan, and Rover parts that make up Little Blue.

Real breakfast vs Virtual breakfast

The province is about give us (not just us, everybody else too) their blessing to assemble in groups of up to 50 as long as we keep our distance from each other.   With summer running at full throttle, I propose that we take the Tuesday morning breakfasts offline and into the real world.  Let's each grab a breakfast anything and coffee/tea at a drive-thru and meet at Odell Park for 9:30AM on Tuesday June 2nd.  Bring your own lawn chair.   There's plenty of parking and we can assemble near the cars on the lawn.
    Bob E.

(Current weather forecast is for rain that Tuesday, so keep an eye open here for updates.)
May 28 update: weather looks better but cool

May 28 4:30 update: Well, it looks like we have to wait another week before gatherings of more than ten are allowed. Interesting to see that the actions of one person has prevented a whole province from moving forward. So, it's back to a Virtual Chat on Tuesday June 2nd.

Other activities that will be put on hold until next Friday include:
  • Outdoor public gatherings of 50 people or fewer.
  • Indoor religious services, including weddings and funerals, of 50 people or fewer.
  • Low-contact team sports.
  • Swimming pools, saunas and waterparks
  • Yoga and dance studios
  • Rinks and indoor recreational facilities
  • Pool halls and bowling alleys

More grief within our club

I ran into Gary Hetherington at the Co-Op today and was shocked to learn that his partner of several years, Jane Hallett, had recently passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Words cannot describe my sorrow at hearing that news.

Jane's obituary can be found here.

Ralph’s No Coffee, not-In-driveway’ entry

Well I don’t drink coffee and it looks like I don’t get to drive cars either. The lawn tractor is up on the lift with hopefully non-terminal starting issues. And this after it was torn down over the winter. What did I miss?

Ralph Holyoke

Nürburgring

A leisurely drive around the Nürburgring in a lightly modified MGB GT v8.  It was running 210kph and pulling 1.2g so it’s probably more than lightly modified. J

On the road!

I’m on the road. Just had it safety inspected and all I have left to do is put the rest of the interior. On my way to Ian’s. He has a transmission tunnel cover clip that I need before putting the carpet in. It’s running great.
Cheers
John DeW.

Arnie B. asks:

Has anyone found a good red LED brake/tail light bulb for a MGB?

Have I got a deal for you!

Hello Folks,
I posted a picture of this butane powered two cylinder engine during my “series” presentation.  The engine doesn’t run and I was hoping that one of you gearheads would be interested in tinkering with it to try to get it running again.  I got no takers so I’m upping the ante.  I will happily pay anyone who can get engine running, $100.  I will deliver the engine within a reasonable distance along with the instruction manual and butane.  If interested, please contact me:  Heinlein@unb.ca.
Thanks,
Larry

These first two photos are not my entry into the Cars & Coffee – Driveway Edition.  That will come in a few days after I dust off the winter dust.  I’ll call it the Cars & Coffee - Garage Edition.  I’m getting ready for our first COVID-19 drive this year where social distancing and all the other rules will apply.  Please note that the Little Blue Car is prepared to protect other LBCs and SOBs from any virus that she might have.  I have recently cured a quite virulent LUCAS virus that infected my ignition relay and fuse block but who knows when another LUCAS virus can appear.

The second two photos are in reply to John DeWitt’s posting of highly luminous photos of his new LED lights.  Here are my new LED daytime running lights.

A bit from Ralph

Ralph almost made it onto our Virtual meeting this morning. Once we saw his name, someone urged the crowd with "Come on, Ralph! Come on, Ralph!" He didn't come on, but sends his regrets.

He also sent the info that he has a FABAC Facebook page that you might want to visit—or add to. It can be found here. (I couldn't get this link to work unless you signed into Facebook.)

Just had a call for the MGA transport pickup.   They will get it tomorrow  Sob Sob sob.

Not really a 'Cars in Driveway' entry...

Special Virtual Breakfast on Tuesday

Many months ago, Kelvin announced that he was inviting us all to his house May 9th to celebrate his 70th birthday. COVID-19 ended that plan, so we're going to try to make Tuesday's breakfast special for him. You'll be getting an email from Phil with details soon. Even if you can't join us for long, try to sign in a little before 9:45 at which time we'll attempt to sing Happy Birthday on ZOOM!

Virtual FABAC “Driveway Cars & Coffee”

Many car clubs organize a weekly or monthly “Cars & Coffee” meet during the summer season where they meet to exchange gossip and admire each other’s cars.  FABAC has not followed this tradition but often has met for a drive and a meal (a favourite pastime of our group) or an ice cream.
Usually by now, FABAC would have one or two small events planned.  COVID-19 has put an end to that for the time being.  A number of us have been meeting online using Zoom each Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM where we have some interesting discussions and exchange the latest news. Why don’t you join us? At our first ever Virtual Business Meeting held on May 6th we decided to try a Virtual “Driveway Cars & Coffee”.  The rules are quite simple:

1.     Shine up your LBC or SOB(short for Some Other Brand)
2.     Position your car in your driveway
3.     A coffee cup or other beverage container must be showing in the photo.  Other props, including people are allowed
4.     Artistic license and imagination is encouraged.  However, we ask that you keep the PG movie rating in mind (Parental Guidance advised).
5.     Submit your photo to David, our FABAC Blog Administrator for posting.
6.     Note that there are no trophies, ribbons or cash prizes involved here, just an opportunity to show off your pride and joy.

Wednesday FABAC Virtual Meeting

(Screen grab by DN)

Last night (06 May 2020) was the first virtual meeting for FABAC.  Thanks to David Nielsen and his techie fingers, we met up on Zoom  (https://zoom.us/).  After a bit of experimentation with other utilities, we've found Zoom to be easy and quick to setup.  It's also free.

  •  Gary started us off with a few notes and an update to what's been happening.
  • Phil discussed the 'Coffee and Car' program that's become popular.  More information may appear here.
  • Rita and Bob let us know they are still planning their very popular Grand Lake run for August  (Yippee!).
  • Because the website has been so busy and Larry's videos have been so popular, we discussed other hobbies we could display to showcase the talent in the club.  Joe offered to make some driving videos and I offered to contact another member about his very interesting hobby.
  • Much discussion was held regarding the possibility of holding a picnic in the near future.  David has contacted the provincial department of fun-n-games(?) and see what we are allowed to do.
  • The Moncton group has invited us on a drive-by.  There was limited information on the occasion  and no one indicated any interest.
  • We discussed why more folks haven't joined in on the breakfast gatherings or this meeting.  We wonder if food isn't the main attraction.
  • Gary gave us an interesting update on the sale of his TR6.  It seems that seller's remorse has set in.
  • Kelvin's 70th birthday is coming up this Saturday (the 9th) and we'll be doing 'something' to celebrate.
Stayed tuned to the site.

Tucher and Walther “space man” Robot

This completes the presentation of my collection.  Many thanks to David for staying on duty for 36 consecutive days to post the series, as well as for his gentle editing.

Thirty-fifth in a series

More Steampunk.  Tucher and Walther’s “Voyage to the Moon”, inspired by Jules Verne’s “From the Earth to the Moon”.

BTW: This from the Queen's Printer Guide
Rule 7. Hyphenate all compound numbers from twenty-one through ninety-nine.

thirty-two children
one thousand two hundred twenty-one dollars

Thirty-fourth in a series

For steampunk fans.  Tucher and Walther flying boat.  This boat can be operated via an electric motor (in this case) or the steam engine.  As this is a limited edition collectors item, the boiler has never been fired.  There is a YouTube video of it powered by steam.  The propellers are moving much faster and it truly looks as if it’s ready to take off.

Virtual Meeting Agenda

It's becoming more apparent that even with the relaxation of the current social isolation protocols that it may be some time before we can get together physically for a face to face meeting or even our car runs. So we're going to try something different to allow us to at least virtually meet as a group to allow us to discuss these things.

David has put some significant effort into making this happen via the use of Zoom, a virtual conferencing system, and has already had several very successful Tuesday breakfast meetings.

That in mind, Phil and David are now prepared to try scale up the virtual Breakfast meeting into having our first monthly virtual meeting. The details of which will be shared with you from Phil in the coming days.

Here is a bit of an agenda to get us thinking about opportunities and ideas for us as a club to maintain some form of communal club contact:

  • First, some expected news in that our Quebec City tour to be lead by John D has been cancelled for this year as has the British Motor Festival in Windsor.
  • Now in terms of how we might go about maintaining our Club while in this current state:
  • Do we want to maintain some level of club contact? The virtual meetings so far have shown this to be the case so how do you feel? Do you have any ideas on how to do that?
  • Do we want to get together for a car run at some point? If so, how do we do this while maintaining the current and future Covid19 social distancing/isolation protocols?
David and others have made some great contributions to our web site both entertaining, light-hearted and informative. Do you have ideas for expanding the use of this site for staying in contact?
I'm sure there are other "outside the box" ideas out there so let's hear from you.

Looking forward to our first virtual meeting and making contact. It's already been too long.

Hope this finds you all well.

               Gary
