St. George Tour Report

What started out as a rather cool and somewhat cloudy start to the tour soon turned into a wonderful top down driving day. Nine cars left Harvey led by John D in his recently upgraded Spitfire. John, as we all know, has the uncanny ability to pick almost perfect driving days for all the tours he puts on for us which are many! Not only did the weather improve but the roads he had chosen through Brockway, Rolling Dam, Elmsdale and finally to our destination St. George were in great shape and the scenery was splendid.

Once in St George we met up with the Holyokes and Daigles at the Birch Grove restaurant. Ralph H. brought his recently restored Jensen Healey (see John's pics). You have got to see this car in person. Ralph has done an excellent job in restoring it—absolutely stunning!

I believe it safe to say we all had a great meal at the Birch Grove. I can tell you my Fish Chowder and Fish and Chips were delicious. I would recommend the restaurant and my meal to anyone.

Once we finished our meals and had our usual after meal conversations we were off again. This time taking a different route home. We toured the back routes through Bocabe, Oak Bay, St. Stephen and back onto Route 3. The route was full of beautiful scenery with hardly any traffic so you could take it all in and really enjoy the relaxed ride. What a great way to spend a holiday! Again thanks to John for putting on yet another great tour. It was well planned and as important it was really well done!

Also, not one to let an opportunity go by I'd like to mention that we need more day tours. Our current tour plans are zero. Please, we need members to take on a tour.

Thanks,
Gary

Solar power project at the Nielsen residence

Inspired by Bruce's installation. This obviously is a ground mount rather than a roof mount but it went up quickly—started late Thursday morning and finished early afternoon Friday. Electrical work still to be done connecting it to the house, and then ready for inspection by NBPower.

A very fine installation crew

More on the St. George run

We have 11 going on Monday to Saint George. Just a little sidenote —gas is dropping by $.10 a litre overnight. Too bad it wasn’t $.75. Also, there will be both indoor AND outdoor seating at the Birch Grove Restaurant.

All the best

JOHN

Trip to St George for Monday May 23

John D. has once again come through for us having a trip to St George planned for Monday May 23.

The plan is to meet at the Irving Gas and Convenience in Harvey at 10am. Note, If driving from Fton the Irving is located about a kilometer on the left before entering Harvey's main "downtown center".

John has made reservations for 20 (can be increased if needed) at the Birch Grove Restaurant in St George. See included menu. They cannot accommodate us on the outside deck so we will have to eat inside. Recommend bringing masks.

He needs to know numbers attending for final booking so   please be sure to confirm your attendance via the site.

More details to follow at our 6pm Thursday meeting at Carleton Park.

   Thanks
  Gary

FABAC May 19th Meeting - Thursday

As you know, we have our regular monthly meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. However, with rain being forecast this Wednesday and interest waning in Zoom meetings let's do an outside face to face meeting this Thursday evening at 6pm at Carleton Park. The forecast is calling for nice sunny weather so bring a picnic supper if you wish.

Hope to see you there.

Buying an MG

Buying a car in 1931 was a bit different than now.

An update on the British Motoring Festival

I received this via email today.

Phi

Phil, as previously communicated, there will be a British Motoring Festival at Kings-Edgehill Schoolin Windsor this year.  It will be a simpler version than we normally hold, it’s just a one-day event on Saturday July 16, i.e. there will be no reception on Friday evening, no breakfast on Saturday morning, no banquet on Saturday evening, no pub breakfast on Sunday morning and no dorm rooms available ….. and, continuing with the “no” theme, THERE WILL BE NO REGISTRATION FEE!

It will be a "private" event i.e. no general public attendance.  Attendees are restricted to Members of BATANS and the NB, PEI and Cape Breton British Car Clubs, and their guests.  The featured Marque this year is Jaguar, celebrating 100 years of Jaguar and its predecessor the Swallow Sidecar company (SS Cars).

Lunch will be available for purchase from a local vendor on the Kings-Edgehill Schoolgrounds.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN.

BATANS members can register online or by completing and mailing/emailing a printed registration form.  Members of FABAC, BMAPEI and BCCCB must use the printed registration form:

  • Online: A Quick Guide to online registration is available HERE
    • Login to the ClubExpress system at Login - BATANS
    • Locate the British Motoring Festival 2022 event and click/tap on View
    • Click/tap on Register Now
    • You can register one vehicle and your guest(s) with one online registration, if you’re registering more than one vehicle, you’ll need to enter multiple online registrations.
  • Printing and completing the Paper Registration Form available HERE and then:
    • Scanning and emailing the completed form to info@batans.ca or
    • Mailing the completed form to BATANS, P.O. Box 122Dartmouth Main P.O., DartmouthNSB2Y 3Y2
    • You can register yourself, your guest(s) and up to 3 cars on the paper form.  Additional info can be entered, if necessary, in the Additional Info field.

As BMF 2022 is a private event, you’ll be required to show your registration confirmation or other identifying information to gain entry to the grounds.

  • If you register yourself online, you can print the information at the last step in the registration process
  • If you register via a printed form, your registration confirmation will be emailed to you.

At “normal” BMFs we support MADD by allowing them to have a booth at the show where they can solicit donations, from registrants and the general public, usually through a 50/50 draw.  This year, as there is no registration fee for the event, registrants may choose to make a voluntary donation to MADD via the Donate button available via this link

If you’re planning on attending BMF 2022 we ask you to REGISTER ASAP.

A last-minute rush of registrations will complicate the process of preparing your registration package - consisting of printed Name Tags for you and your guest(s), Car Cards for display on your windshield(s), etc. – and having them ready for you to pick up on your arrival.  This is particularly true this year as our registrar has some vacation planned at the end of June/beginning of July and would like to avoid a hectic final week leading up to the show!

St. Andrews

Bruce and I enjoyed a chilly but wonderful Mother’s Day lunch on the deck at the Gables in St. Andrews. Seems as if it might be time to do a ride there as the neighbourhood seems to be deteriorating by the look of the cars in evidence.

Johanna (with apologies to Corvette drivers).

Breakfast at Odell Park May 10th

 From Phil:

I checked the weather for Tuesday morning and it looks like about 9ºC.  A few of you folks have been asking when we will meet at Odell Park with coffee and breakfast.  I’m going out on a limb and say let’s meet at Odell Park.  Bring a warm jacket and some hot coffee or tea and leave your slippers at home.

9:00am

FABAC to display at Gagetown Craft Fair

John D. Has arranged for FABAC to display our vehicles at Gagetown on July 9th. Details will be sent out as we approach that date. It has always been a pleasant and successful event.

Racing schedule at Atlantic Motorsports Park

As we discussed this morning during our Zoom meeting, Gerald Elliott sent the message below about racing at Atlantic Motorsports Park.  There may be a number of people who would be interested in going down.  It’s about a four hour drive from here so an early start would be needed.  I’d suggest getting away at “the crack of dawn”, enjoy a full day of racing, stay overnight and take a full day to come home via some scenic roads.
Perhaps those interested can chime in.
