Sunday's Dumfries Run Report

I apologize to EVERYONE about the snow and vicious winds Sunday morning. I jinxed the weather by removing my snow tires, storing the snowblower and shovels, and the biggest thumb-the-nose at nature, putting away my winter bicycle. So there I was this morning—in the cursed snow—braving the wind that bit into my face—changing my tires back again.
We met on the side of the road just out side of town on the Woodstock road/102 and headed north. The wind was nasty and driving demanded one's full attention. At least the roads were clear and devoid of ice.
Once at Dumfries, we joined up with a few others and spent some time up at the shack learning about the sap to sugar process. We've done this every year but it's still fun to see the huge boiler in operation.
Inside the lodge we found an entire side reserved for us and greeted a couple car's worth of stragglers. We had 17 FABACians in total, about average for this run. It's interesting that this outing, the first of the season, is always well attended no matter how lousy the weather is. Maybe it's the maple syrup.
Thanks to all who attended and made this a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Report on March Meeting

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuiTHMuvqT4

Ya...it was that kinda evening except that no one danced a macarena on the table. Dianne has been known to do that, but it was on a campus far, far away and in a galaxy a long time ago.
Somehow we wound our way to El Mariachi in what was a former dorm for STU.  It gave off the vibe of a former cafeteria because it was.  That gave us lots of elbow room.
Gary started the festivities by welcoming all, and introduced a new member, Barry Grant. Barry comes complete with a buncha fun cars in various states and we'll be working on him to arrange a garage tour soon.
  • This weekend starts the season with a run to Dumfries for pancakes. Details are in the previous post.
  • John D. (not Delorean) is planning a run to Saint John (are ya reading this Ralph?) on the 12th of April.
There's more runs in the planning stage....
  • Cape Breton June 12-14th,
  • Pei July 30th to the 3rd of August,
  • Phil mentioned a trip to Mossport on the 15th of June (see mowoguniversity.com)
  • The Wednesday evening car shows along the riverfront will start up in May.
Everyone agreed that like Namaste last month, El Mariachi was excellent with a capitol "Yum!". We'll be eating there again.
The next meeting will be at one of our old favourites, Dimitri's.

Next FABAC Meeting March 19th (almost Spring!)

A new place for several of us but highly recommended—El Mariachi Restaurant Bar—Mexican food and drink.
5:30pm as usual.
A little tricky to get to the first time, but if you recall the old Keddy's Motel or the St. Thomas residence and conference centre off Forrest Hill Road, El Mariachi is round the back of that property. Parking back there is clearly marked. Entrance and exit is done counter-clockwise or if you prefer, anti-clockwise. Do it wrong, and we will tease you mercilessly (I'm beginning to sound like Rob Earl!)!

Dumfries Maple for pancakes

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, the twenty-third of March—a bare three days after the first day of spring.

Depart at noon for a 1:00 PM rendezvous at Dumfries.

As always, the inaugural season run is to Dumfries Maple for pancakes and such.
Let's meet at Miller's Ice, just up the road from where Prospect and Woodstock Road meet. It's a blue metal building on the left that has an ice cream shop there in the summer.
If you plan on going separately, or joining in on the way PLEASE LET ME KNOW.  I'll inform Dumfries so that they can arrange tables for us.
Anyone who fails to do so will be forced to sit outside in an icy puddle!
