Friday morning drive and lunch!

It’s finally time for an outing to HARVEY.  This Friday, August 1 the weather looks great for a morning run with lunch at the new canteen in Harvey.  Best fish and chips around.

I suggest a gathering at Bruce and Johanna’s place any time after 0930 where coffee and cookies will help you through the morning.  Civic Number 670 on Hwy 3, about 30 minutes from town. 

Then a departure to Harvey to arrive about 1130 at the Lunch Box for dining al fresco.  Lots of picnic tables available.  Bring cash as they are purposely retro and don’t use credit.  Afterwards I suggest the option of a drive to Magaguadavic (75 km loop) for those interested. 

UPDATE on Trip to P.E.I.

Ernst and I will be leaving my house (104 NB-102, Burton, NB E2V 3A1) at 9:00 am sharp on Wednesday, 30th of July. We'll be meeting up with Saint John members at the Tim’s in Salisbury, New Brunswick around 10:30am. Then leave to go to Summerside PEI.

Meeting report July 16th

       A small but noisy and rambunctious crowd of FABACians gathered at one of our favourite haunts, Dimitri's, for dinner and gabbing. While we'd all been looking forward to trying out the balcony, the heat, humidity, fire smoke and blistering sun chased us inside.

      Once seated we discovered that I, yours truly was the only one fitted with a tie.  Even Robert Young was untied, leaving me no choice but to declare myself the winner of July's Tie challenge. 

      Gary and Barb were somewhere else doing something obviously not as important as the monthly meeting, meaning that once again, I was in charge.

    WE HAS OUTINGS COMING!

   Yes, stuff is gonna be happening this summer.

• The Stanley Fair (oldest agricultural fair in North America at 175 years old!) will be on Aug 16th. Larry will be leading a group drive from the North side.  Watch here for details.
• Bruce announced that the Harvey Canteen is open.  He will be arranging a run for us.  Watch here for details.
• Johanna is planning an outing to the King's Head Inn.  Once again, watch here for details.

     The next monthly dinner will be at El Mariachi off of Forest Hill Rd.  We all enjoyed it, particularly all the elbow room and excellent food.   Aug 20th.

My Tesla tried to kill me today using Full Self Driving (Supervised)

Most of you in FABAC have traveled from the Northside towards the Westmorland Street bridge, let's say from Shoppers. We have this long onramp curving to meet the two lanes going south on the bridge. Watch the first video to see the view out the front. Full Self Driving is barreling along like nothing could happen. Then, just when the Tesla thought it would join the right lane, I slammed on the brakes—look at the traffic going by that it was planning to 'merge' with!!!!!. 

Now, look at the second video to see the camera that is looking back to the left—what you would see if you were looking back over your left shoulder. Did it plan to 'mate' with that white truck?!!! No one would have had a chance to avoid me because both lanes were busy. What a pileup it could have been!!!

Full Self Driving (Supervised) can be scary and needs to be constantly supervised. I just subscribed for a month to see how it might have improved since last year—waste of money. Although, it sure knows how to park in any situation.

The "RED BEAST LIVES"

Finally after almost 23 years my 1972 MGB is roadworthy.  Always some details to finish such as front grill, soft top and other items.  Paint colour is Dodge Viper red.
It has a live growl to the exhaust and wants to go. I am in the break-in period for the first 500 miles.  Now with 3, which one should I drive??

Road trip to Noah’s Ark Cafe

Ernst and I are just getting back. We had a great drive on Rte 104. I made a choice to take Rte 580 to Bristol. I would not recommended it—it is made more for pick up trucks and SUVs. But on arriving at the café, we met up with one of the new club members that Ernst is trying to bring into the club from Bristol. He took us for a drive around Moose Mountain and Bath. It was a nice drive around the country side. Ernst and I later had breakfast at the cafe. That is all they make. It was very good and a great price. Under $9.00. I think It would be a great fall trip. We could either go to the café or check out the railway dining car restaurant in Bristol. I am not sure what their hours are. I will check into it. If anyone is interested in doing something in mid September.
