Grand Falls Trip

What a great day for 515 km drive along the St. John River! From Hartland to Grand Falls the leaves are about 80% gone but a great view of the river. I would rate the road 8 out 10 for driving on. We had a great day, wonderful meal, and fantastic people to spend a fall day with. I would like to thank Phil, Chris, Mark and Ernst. Also our new members, for their hospitality—Mike Blanchard, owner of the yellow TR6,Trina and Dave Kearney, owner of green MGB. Dave is doing a great job on restoring Terry Pond's MGB. They hope to join us on trips this summer. Yes, we had three MGB, two Mazdas and two Triumphs.
Cheers,
John

Owl's Head Museum

Quite a few FABAC members have been to the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum. It’s a wonderful place with numerous exhibits of cars, trucks, aircraft, motorcycles, steam engines and even a Gypsy Wagon.  I came across this on YouTube today.

Report on the Four Ferry Run

Another great day for a drive in eight British Sport Cars. The fall colours were incredible—there are still 60% of leaves on the trees. I would like to thank Rose, Henning, Beth, Chris, Rick, Mark, Gordon, Mike, his friend Dave Shipley and Ernst for coming along for the a great drive. We had great food and wonderful people too—it made for a great day.

Cheers,
John

This is beginning to look like the "good old days" of our club. A GOOD sign!

Octobers Meeting Low Attendance

First of all, thanks to Bob E. for filling in for me while we were away. Let's hope that having no one show up for the October meeting was a "one of " occurrence. Past meetings normally have a good turn-out relative to the number of active members in the club. I think, while this is concerning, that a lot of our regular membership including ourselves, were unable to attend due other commitments. So let's see what happens in the near future.

Also, I like the idea of doing the November meeting at Minglers again and agree with your assessment of it offering good food at a reasonable price. At that meeting we'll also ensure we ask for committed numbers for the Holiday Party at the Fredericton Inn.

  Thanks,
    Gary

Last night's dinner-meeting-show...show?

The October dinner saw us explore a new venue last night by way of the Fredericton Playhouse. No one showed up at Mingler's (zero, zip, nothing, nada, rien) leaving Dianne and I to dine alone before heading to the Playhouse for the show (Bee Gees tribute band....Wow!) where we met another couple of FABACians, doubling the count.  During the intermission we held an impromptu meeting and decided that:

  • Next month's dinner will again be at Mingler's.  The food is excellent with generous portions.  Service was quick and prices were VERY reasonable.  There's also tons of (free) parking right outside.
  • The holiday party will be at the Fredericton Inn.  We won't ask for the buffet since we can't count on sufficient numbers. The date will be announced soon~ish.
  • The idea of having the holiday part at King's Landing is a no-go because dinners are ONLY on certain dates, you can have any meal you want as long as you ONLY want turkey and the traditional fixings, and the price is a wallet-choking one hundred bucks PER PERSON.  Ya, I laughed at this too.
  • The annual Octoberfest run is on the 26th (Sunday) of this month (October).  It will be earlier this year to avoid the afternoon rush. This will give us more time to relax and chat. See the post.
After the record breakingly quick meeting we all rocked and grooved to the Bee Gees tribute band who were absolutely spectacular. I never really liked the Bee Gees that much but was sucked into the mood and had a blast. My mate (a HUGE fan) regressed back to her younger years as she boogied.

Oktoberfest Run

Oct run to Adolf's Gasthoff Old Bavarian Restaurant Oct. 26th

Note that it's earlier this year to avoid the HUGE rush in the early afternoon.

They now accept modern payment methods.

Contact the restaurant (1-506-433-4735) NOW if you plan on attending.
Tell them that you are with FABAC.  The reservation is under my name.

Gather at Ramada Inn parking lot (north side) on Sunday, Oct 26th at 10:15, rain or ...it's gonna rain of course so there's no contingency plan for sunshine.

The route:
  • Depart the parking lot at 12:15 sharp along the scenic 105. A short detour along the boring Trans Canada to avoid the partially demolished bridge.
  • Regain the 105 after Jemseg and turn left onto the 695 heading towards Cambridge Narrows.
  • After Crossing the bridge at Cambridge Narrows we turn left onto the lovely and relaxing 710.
  • The 710 makes a right turn somewhere after someplace named 'Cody's'.
  • Join up with the straight and boring (but thankfully short) highway 10,
  • Just before Sussex, turn left onto Roachville Rd.  I don't remember if there's much of a sign there but if we/you miss it, you/we can pick it up soon after at the interchange.
  • Follow Roachville Rd a while until you see the right hand turn onto Knightville Rd....which is on the right. At some point the restaurant will appear on the right.

Maps or GPSs are well advised.  I no longer get lost and lead folks astray, but we may become separated. We hope to get there around 12:00.
We hope that some of our old friends from Moncton join us.
  Rob E.

Four Ferry Trip

The weather is looking good for this Sunday October 19th for a four ferry trip.
  • Meeting at the Burton Courthouse for 9:00am leaving at 9:30AM driving down Route 105 to Jemseg to Gagetown Ferry
  • Then over to Evandale Ferry.
  • On to Belisle Ferry and then have lunch in Hampton at Berc’s Cookhouse. The restaurant does not do reservations on weekends. So we’ll have to take our chances on getting a seat.
  • Then drive Hampton along the peninsula to the Westfield Ferry.
  • Then 101 route through Hoyt, Fredericton, Junction, to home.
Cheers,
 John.

Sunday trips to Gagetown and beyond!

What a great day for a drive in British sports cars! After arriving in Gagetown for lunch at the Gagetown Grill, where Bruce, Johanna, Mike, Mark, Ernst and I had a great lunch. We headed out in five British cars out for a wonderful diver on Rte715 Cambridge Narrows to Cole Island turn off. We then drove to Chipman and Minto. Stopping at McCready’s Gas station so Ernst could get gas and where we met up with Gary Sudul. He invited us over to his cottage on Cumberland Bay where he picked up his TR6. Then Gary took the lead to Chipman/Minto just outside Chipman taking the Post Road and now there are Six cars. I followed up at the back of the group. I must say what a beautiful sight watching these car rolling a long the road. I would like to thank everyone for coming along on the drive.
Cheers,
John

Sunday road trip Gagetown for lunch

October 12th Sunday meeting at Burton Court House at 10:45 leaving at 11:00 am . Drive to Gagetown for lunch Gagetown Grill or 12 PM. After lunch, take the Ferry over to Cambridge Narrows drive through the Narrows Coles Island Road. Then drive to Minto and Chipman. Have coffee at Tim Hortons then proceed on to Fredericton and home. If anyone is interested in going, please let me know by Friday so that I can give the restaurant exact number of people that will be going on Sunday.
Cheers
John

I would like to thank everyone that attended today, We had 13 people attend. I only had one problem. I got lost on the way to St. George. I went on route 770 instead of route 760, knowing that  770 would take me to St. George via Bonnie River. But I turned left instead of right and we ended up going on a road that only a four wheel and dirt bike would really liked. I feel bad that I had the other members drive on 17 km of gravel road. So they’re not many pictures of the cars as they are 95% covered in heavy dust. But all in all I think we had a great time. Great meal, great company, everybody I hope enjoyed themselves.
All the best
John

Sunday Fish ‘n’ Chip Run

Meeting place  is Harvey Station at the Irving Station for 10:30 am leaving around 10:45am. Driving to St. George  to the Birch Grove Restaurant arriving around 12:15. I will need to know how many members are going so I can make reservations. After having our lunch. Drive to St. Stephen maybe a pit stop a Tim’s . Then take route 3 back to Fredericton.
Cheers,
John
