Today's run (drive) report. (Oct. 30/22)

     "There is no beauty that hath not some strangeness about it." 

     That quote (something to do with bacon(?)) has nothing to do with today's Octoberfest run but it does make ya think that maybe you all missed something today. 

     A relaxing drive under clear blue skies with the warmish air bustling the tops of our heads eventually brought us to Adolf's in Knightville. We enjoyed a stop along the way to powder our collective noses (are you paying attention John D?) before continuing on. 

     It's been a long four years and I almost hugged Ovide as he climbed out of his TD. The food was as good as we all remembered and it was great to reacquaint ourselves with old friends and make some new ones. 

     There was much chat about the new British car club that trying to get its feet off the ground in Moncton and we all volunteered to give them all the help we can. 

     Another FAB outing and a FAB day!

November Meeting Venue Update

 Hi Folks.  

Sandi called Moco to make reservations for our November meeting.  She was told that they couldn’t accommodate 20 people.  Now we have a reservation for Wednesday, November 16th (usual date), 5:30 at Sam Snead.

FABAC Holiday Party - Wednesday Dec 14/22

     I've just confirmed our annual Holiday Party for Wed, Dec 14 at the Fredericton Inn beginning at 5:30. This year it will be held in the Regency Room. This is the formal dining room not the Brass Rail which is where we were last year.

     It will be a buffet dinner, with the seafood casserole, dessert, tea and coffee for $29.95. A more complete menu will follow once I receive that detail.

     We will need confirmed numbers so please confirm your attendance soon, no later than our next meeting.

      Gather at Ramada Inn parking lot (north side) on Sunday, Oct 30th at 11:30 noon, rain or ...it's gonna rain of course so there's no contingency plan for sunshine.

The route:

• Depart the parking lot at 11:45 sharp along the scenic 105.  
• a short detour along the boring Trans Canada to avoid the partially demolished bridge. 
• regain the 105 after Jemseg and turn left onto the 695 heading towards Cambridge Narrows. 
• after Crossing the bridge at Cambridge Narrows we turn left onto the lovely and relaxing 710. 
• the 710 makes a right turn somewhere after someplace named 'Cody's'. 
• join up with the straight and boring (but thankfully short) highway 10, 
• just before Sussex, turn left onto Roachville Rd.  I don't remember if there's much of a sign there but if we/you miss it, you/we can pick it up soon after at the interchange. 
• follow Roachville Rd a while until you see the right hand turn onto Knightville Rd....which is on the right. 
• at some point the restaurant will appear on the right.

     Maps or GPSs are well advised.  I no longer get lost and lead folks astray, but we may become separated. We hope to get there around 2:00.   
We hope that some of our old friends from Moncton join us.  There is (apparently) a British car club in Moncton and Ovide will be contacting them.

Today's run to Sussex/Hampton/Saint John and points all over.

 John D. really knows to pick 'em.   Either that or he can magically arrange for perfect weather.  A heavy mist hung over the group as we headed out from Burton, some with tops down, and wound down the 102.  We took the ferry to the peninsula and wandered down a variety of back roads as the mist burned off and it warmed up to what can only be called an Indian summer.   In Sussex, John led the group aimlessly through the town until we got tired of it and settled on someplace that was luckily, prepared for a group just our size.

 Remember that Road Runner cartoon where the coyote winds up running himself to exhaustion, lost in a maze of conflicting road signs (set up by the road runner)?  That's what the after lunch drive to Hampton for ice cream was like.   John mostly knows the roads well, but his GPS kept falling off and I, who was his passenger, was of zero help.  Still, it was very much summery and all tops were down by this time.  Eventually Hampton hove into view and we all stopped for a well deserved ice cream.

 It was there that a new look and direction for FABAC happened.  An innocent conversation regarding the continuing evolution of FABAC spawned....wait for it.....

 "We're not just FABAC, we're FAB!"

 There'll be more on this in the near future, trust me on this (*wink wink*).

 The group split off in ones and more ones as we headed along the river up to some obscure gas station with John lamenting the small size of his fuel tank before continuing on home.

 Thanks to John for another great tour and lunch.

AND A FINAL UPDATE on October Trip

LOTS of interest was shown today so the trip is on!

There has been very little response to this proposed trip so John suggests we cancel if more don't indicate an interest by 5:00 today.

I am planning on taking a drive on Sunday October 23/22. I booked for 20 people at the Timberland restaurant in Sussex.

• I was thinking we could meet at the Burton courthouse for 10 o’clock leaving around 1015 
• Drive down the 105 to Jemseg and on to the Cody‘s. 
• On to Sussex and over to the Timberland Restaurant for lunch. 
• After lunch drive back through Sussex and back to Hampton. 
• On to Saint John then to Route 101 to Fredericton. 
• I also found out that the Gagetown Ferry is running until the end of November. We could take the Gagetown Ferry and drive to Lower Cambridge Narrows and then onto the Cody‘s. 

I will check with other members to see what route to take.
