Here are some more pictures of last week's British Motoring Festival in Windsor, N.S. They include one of the Jaguar Mark 9 sedan which won the Participant's Choice Award.  The event was such a great success that both participants and organizers were already talking about next year's show.

The venue, the organization and the variety of British cars displayed was truly amazing. And the enthusiasm of the local volunteer BATANS members was equally impressive. Five FABAC cars were entered this year. Maybe we can double or triple that number in 2011.

The British Motoring Festival at Windsor, NS

I will leave to someone else to give a report and others to submit a wider range of photos, but be forewarned, those who missed this event can just curl up and cry -- it was that good. I mean, linen table cloths and napkins at the awards banquet! Sitting in the shade of an old beech tree during the perfect weather for the show. 140 cars on display. I could go on. Meet the Healeys

At the July meeting FABACians attending the Healey get together at Alders’ listed the following as their food contributions:

Pasta salad and hors d’oeuvres
Shepherd’s pie with stout and cheese
Hungarian sausage
Chicken bruchetta salad and a dessert
Coleslaw salad and strawberry Pavlova
Caesar salad
Chicken wings and watermelon salad

There will likely be upwards of 60 people at the get together, if you plan to attend please let Curry know.

Report: July 2010 FABAC Meeting

This month's meeting was held at the Moonlight Restaurant in Dumfries. The drive from Fredericton to the restaurant was lead by duo Jim B and Bob L after Gary A relinquished the lead car role due being delayed. Several other cars joined the main group en route and yet more cars (Hoffmans and McNallys) met us at the restaurant for a total turn out of 12 cars and 22 members. Another great turn out! The weather could not have been more accommodating with beautiful blue skies, warm weather and beautiful scenery along the mighty Saint John River valley. Spectacular really!

Jim Bleakney conducted a very well organized meeting with the following items being discussed:

 - Members Pat and Bob Sweet are leaving us and moving to Bathurst. We will all miss them and thank both for their contributions to the club. Bob you set the bar for taking minutes which we all appreciated. Bathurst is not that far away so we will hope you maintain your membership and join us in our travels when you can. You will always be welcome here.

 - Bob and Ann McNally brought out their recently restored 1980 Triumph Spitfire...a wonderful original car. We look forward to have them join us in all our endeavors.

 - Currie and Sherry are hosting the Austin Healey Club of Southern Ontario (AHCSO) at their place on Monday Jul 26. The event starts at about 4pm but all welcome as you can arrive. Folks are asked to bring a dish and munchies for later. Heather Dunphy will organize the contributions so look for a posted note soon.

   - Windsor Trip is this weekend. A number of members have already left. Another group will be leaving Friday morning. For anyone wanting to leave Friday morning with that group please contract Jim Bleakney.

 - Rexton Trip is the weekend following. A number of members are going and staying overnight. At the meeting there appeared to be some interest from 4-5 members who were thinking of driving up for the day and returning. More on that later.

 - Dwight B is interested in knowing of anyone attending the Rexton event who might have a extra seat for an additional passenger. Please contact him.

 - Organizers of the Charity Show and Shine in Support of the Oromocto Legion send us a letter asking of our interest to participate and asked us to suggest a date. There is club interest but we would leave it to the organizers for setting the specific date. Their proposal for sometime in September where we do not have a lot planned is probably a good time frame but we would need to know soon.   

- Next meeting will be held on Wed Aug 18 at an oriental restaurant in Oromocto. Netti will organize it for us.

To Meet or not to Meet? That is the question.

Some members are going to Windsor on Friday so we ask the question: Do you think we should continue with our plans for our Wednesday evening meeting at the Moonlight Inn restaurant in Dumfries? Leave a comment and a commitment. The restaurant needs confirmation of the approximate numbers so I thought we could poll the group.
  I suggest a 6:00pm meet at the Tims on Hanwell and go from there.  I'll lead the foray.

And we have the answer:   At this point we have 6-7 cars which is a pretty good turn out.  So, it's confirmed that's it's a go for Wed evening meeting at the Moonlight Restaurant in Dumfries. 
        We will leave sharply at 6pm from the Tim Hortons on Hanwell Rd. and pick up stragglers on the way.  ;-)

Stowe, Vermont - British Invasion

Robbie H., Bob G. and Curry A. are just now making travel plans to attend the Stowe British Invasion September 17, 18 and 19. Are there any other folks interested in making the trip with us? The drive across ME, NH, into VT is very enjoyable and there just happens to be a British car show at the end of the drive. We leave on Sept.16, over night in Gorham, NH and arrive in Stowe around 1:00 pm on the 17th. Last couple of years there have been 600 + cars at the show with lots of British buzz around the area starting mid week. We have enjoyed the trip, camaraderie and the show in the past and expect this year will be no different. If you are interested, please contact Curry for further info.

Visiting Healey Club Pot-Luck Update

Well how time does pass by quickly. I first mentioned the AHCSO tour several months ago and their departure time is near. July 20th, the folks meet in Cornwall, ON and begin their tour with the first stop in Quebec City, making their way to Bar Harbor, ME and then Fredericton on route to Nova Scotia - Cape Breton, South Shore of NS, Digby, across to St. John and on to St. Stephen, across Maine, NH, Vermont, NY and home. The final count is 16 cars (13 big Healeys, 2 Bugeye Sprites and 1 MGB) with 1 car from New Mexico. They will be in our area July 26 and staying at the Riverside Resort (former Holiday Inn). We will be hosting a social visit and barbecue at our home during the late afternoon and evening and need to get a count of FABACians that will be joining this gathering.

The dinner will consist of salad, barbecue hotdogs and hamburger and a dessert. We would like the club members to bring the (pot luck) salads. Sherry and I will look after the rest of the food. Perhaps some folks may like to contribute some munchies as well to go along with a drink of sorts (by individuals). Now Sherry and I are leaving to travel to NS and the Windsor car show on July 20 also and need to get coordinated  for this event before we leave. So we would like to have a count of folks from our club who will be joining in to make this dinner a real success and enjoy the visit from the AHCSO.

Could you let us know soon please if you can join the get together and meet and enjoy the company of some new friends for dinner.

A Real British Car Day Tour

John Bowles is proposing "A Real British Car Day Tour" for Saturday, August 14th for ALL FABACians driving British and non-British cars. Starting at 10.30 am from the Fredericton Ramada, the route would go to Jemseg, Cambridge Narrows, Springfield and Kingston. At Kingston, there would be a pit stop and a visit to the John Fisher Memorial Museum and the oldest Anglican church in New Brunswick on its original foundation.

After a guided tour of the church, the route would continue a few kilometres from Kingston to the riverside property of Tony Rickett. Here, tour participants would be able to display their cars on the grounds at the water's edge. eat the picnic lunches they have brought, and enjoy Tony's collection of British classics (Jaguar, Triumph, Austin-Healey etc.) and his extensive vineyard! A bottle of the vineyard's best product would go the winner of a special car-related competition.

Later in the afternoon, the tour would proceed to the Grand Bay-Westfield ferry (pit stop) along Rte 850 which has to have some of the most beautiful views in New Brunswick, After the ferry, participants would drive to Evandale where at the Evandale Inn dinner around 5.30 pm would be served. After dinner, the tour would end in Fredericton via Queenstown, Gagetown and Oromocto.

To gauge FABAC member's initial response to the proposal, please contact John NOW at tel: 449-0562 or email: jmbowles @nb.sympatico.ca. Final confirmation would be required by noon Wednesday, August 11th so as to give notice to Tony Rickett and the Evandale Inn.

This would be a rain or shine event. It is designed to encourage many more FABAC members to participate than in previous club tours.

Report on the North American MGB Register's MG2010 Convention

More than 200 MGBs were on display at the North American MGB Register's MG2010 Convention held in Belleville, Ontario last June 23rd-27th. One dazzling Flame Red example stood out, partly because
a New Brunswick flag also attracted the crowd's attention.

Four FABACians attended the convention, Dwight and Barb Ball with their daughter Chloe, and John and Shirley Ann Bowles who drove the red 'B' some 1,700 miles to and from the event. Organized by the MG Car Club of Toronto, Ontario's third oldest sports car club, the event was some four years in the planning and organization.

Its featured activities included conducted tours of the Quinte Bay area with its many wineries, arts and crafts shops and historic Loyalist sites; a track day at Shannonville Raceway and a car show on the grounds of the Ramada Hotel, the event headquarters. Technical sessions with MG experts like John Twist, a ladies program, and a long awards banquet were other activity highlights. (John's 'B' received some 'Twist Treatment' with some special timing and carb adjustment).

Spoilt only by rain during the day of the car show, MG 2010 was very well organized, with many of the entries a joy to behold for their concours presentation. Good though it is, John's Flame Red example just wasn't quite good enough to win an award. He does have a nice dash plaque though!      We're normally pretty jaded when it comes to manufacturer's claims for their products.  Rarely do things work anywhere nearly as well as they're advertised.  This is an example of something that does.  This rust paint actually works as well as they claim it does.  It's been around for years and is well known and respected by the restoration crowd.  Unfortunately it's always been hard to get, being sold mainly through mail order.  It's now available through the UAP/NAPA store on Restigouche Rd in Oromocto who will bring it in upon request.  visit the POR-15 site at  https://www.por15canada.com/can/   The stuff isn't cheap but it's well worth the price.  I can bore anyone with the story of my 85 Honda Civic that was held together by this stuff.

Kari is organizing a fundraiser for the Food Bank while at the same time show casing their Montanas restaurant in Fredericton. If we can get a few cars together, they will set aside a parking area specifically for our cars - we could use our signs to identify our club.
