"Too-Nice-A-Day-to-Miss" Run

So the Fly-in Breakfast tomorrow morning is cancelled! That’s a shame but who wants to join Shirley Ann and John B. still at 8.30 at Valley Ridge Furniture (Island View/Rte 102) and drive onto the Big Stop restaurant up the highway? Please email John at jmbowles@nb.sympatico.ca or phone him on 449-0562 and leave a message.

Ernie MacLean's Fly-in- Breakfast - June 30th

*** Cancelled! ***
Lots of disappointed folks out there, but even if the sun does shine on Saturday, the field would be too soggy for safe landings, taxiing and take-offs. No re-scheduling planned. See you next year!

There will be private planes landing and taking off constantly from Ernie's air field. Probably we will see our own air aces, Joe Hine and Arnie Boer showing up with their flying machines.

Ernie has invited the FABAC group to be part of his event with our LBBCs parked by the plane hanger in a special area for the guests to view.

We will gather at Valley Ridge Furniture store parking lot (Route 102 Old Woodstock Road) Island View at 8:30 AM. We  leave at 9:00AM via Route 102 North- - cross Mactaquac Dam -- and meet up with other members as we drive north on Route 105 to Granite Hill.
- Jim B.

Further to this event–please arrive for Breakfast, but in addition, the Fredericton Flying Club will be doing a lunch time BBQ after the Breakfast is finished. Lots of activity if the weather is good.

This email from Karen:
"I think this photo of a rather distraught Larry at his lovely daughter's wedding this past weekend should make the FABAC photo of the year list. What perfect use of an LBC. I am not sure what is distressing Larry, loss of daughter or use of car?
Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS to the Heinleins from all the FABACians!"

This comment from Larry:
"We had a very successful and fun wedding on Saturday.  The weather even cooperated.  The wedding photographer took this picture.   Cheers, Larry"

This from your WebMaster: Can you think of an appropriate caption for this photo? Let's hear it. Post it in a comment.

Cornhill Nurseries Run report by Bob E.

The dainty and quaint Citroen had been a steadfast sight in my rear view mirror for many kilometres when suddenly, there it was...beside me, it's engine humming along merrily and it's driver grinning broadly.  I glanced at my speedometer and no, I hadn't run out of gas. We where doing a good 90Kph as Robert piloted his deux chevaux past me with authority and pulled in front.
We clearly went the wrong way on Sunday.  Warming temps and clearing skies promised a decent outing.  Eleven cars including a svelte 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Spider ) motored towards Sussex.  At our first stop at McCreadies I met Dan Nicholes and Susan Butterfield.  Dan has recently arrived in Freddy along with his Alfa that he has owned since new(!!!).
Continuing on, the skies darkened and it got cooler.  At one point I put on a little blast of acceleration to try and get more heat out of the engine.  The fact that it put me back out in front of that pesky little 2CV (and sprayed a fine mist of oil on whomever was behind me) was beside the point.
Finally arriving at Cornhill Nurseries, EVERYBODY put their tops up and hustled inside shivering.  Lunch was warm and filling.  We will have to venture back there sometime when the weather is nicer. Heather-n-Vic picked some great roads which I didn't really enjoy to there fullest due to the coolish and overcast day.
Folks wandered the gardens for a bit then headed back in small groups or singly.  Disappointingly,  it warmed up and the skies cleared as we neared Freddy and I pulled into my driveway with the temperature just over 20C.
Thanks again the Vic-n-Heather for laying on the run and welcome to Susan and Dan....and their Alfa..."puro sangue!
- Bob E.

Request for a Prom driver and car for a graduating couple.

Let me know if you are interested and available on June 18th and 19th late afternoon/evening (I believe). Email me and I'll give you the contact name/number.

Just a note that for  those intending to go to the show and made verbal arrangements last year to stay at the Down East Motel - you should now call to confirm your reservation as they will be full with a waiting list.

TOURING THE UK IN A CLASSIC E-TYPE

If you haven’t done it, you should. We just did, Shirley Ann and I, touring the UK in a classic sports car. For us, it was a red 1964 Series 1 Jaguar E-type coupe hired from Vintage Classics (www.vintage-classics.co.uk). Located in Melksham, Wiltshire and some 90 minutes from London’s Heathrow Airport, the company also rents other tasty classics including Austin-Healeys, Daimlers and Alfa Romeos.

Concentrated in the West of England, our tour included a combination of motorways, rural roads and country lanes. These provided the driver with a variety of speed challenges and his passenger with the odd exciting experience! The tour route included the coastal highway on the south side of the Bristol Channel, up the 6 km hill at Porlock and across the gorse-lined open roads of Exmoor. In and out of towns in Somerset, Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire. the route continued across Salisbury Plain all in beautiful sunshine. Wherever we stopped, the Jaguar drew admiring glances from passers-by. Some even spoke to us. One said. “My dad worked in the Jaguar factory. He probably built your car.” Another said. “I used to have one of these – a roadster, but along came the family and I had to sell it.” And yet another asked, “How long have you had the E-type?” I just couldn’t admit it was a rental, so I replied, “Well, I only got it yesterday!”

Later we drove into the New Forest, an area of protected woodland populated by more ponies and sheep than people. The town of Beaulieu is renowned for its glorious Abbey, the National Motor Museum and a company specializing in classic cars of all makes and models. We stopped there to see, under cover in a huge showroom, examples of Mercedes, Jaguar, MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey and Rolls-Royce. The examples appeared to be either restored or in exceptional original condition priced accordingly. Along the route, we stayed in delightful B&Bs, ate (and drank) in picturesque pubs (just like the ones in the travel brochures!) and met a wonderful assortment of people. We arrived back where we started with the E-type unscathed and with memories of what we had just experienced that will last a lifetime.

Vintage Classics cars can be hired from one day to a whole week. Each rental is inclusive of comprehensive insurance and breakdown cover. Maps and suggested route plans are included. The company is to be recommended.
