Carolyn and David's 3200+km trip

This past week, Carolyn and I visited friends in London, Ontario to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Although we didn't take the Morgan, those of you who went to Stowe a couple of years back will recall much of the route on our return trip.
Click on the map for a larger view.
The amazing thing about the trip is that we traveled in three provinces and four states with BEAUTIFUL weather throughout the trip. All that countryside through the mountains is beautiful at any time, but there was still enough colour to make for some impressive views. Carolyn took several wonderful shots. Click on the one below for a few samples. (I have included a few food shots to balance things out appropriately.  :-)

Some trivia questions for you: (updates in red)
#1 What is the speed limit on the I-95 between Houlton and Bangor? (correctly answered in comments)
#2 How did "Smuggler's Notch" get its name? (correctly answered in comments)
#3 How many steps did we have to climb from the lower town in Quebec City up to the plains?  (Still waiting for correct answer!)
#4 Where were we coming from and where were we going in this next graphic? (correctly answered in comments)
#5 What did my GPS say to me thirty metres from shore? (Still waiting for correct answer!)

2CV Bob says you were going from vermont to new york state, the 2CV has also crossed on this ferry, the restaurant on the new york side is quite nice, the speed on the I95 to bangor is not attainable in the traction and barely in the 2CV, its 105km, about 65mph, Rita and I climbed this stairway, I would think over 300 steps, there were joggers on it in training for the marathon at the time.
Great trip you had, glad you are safe and sound.

Thanks Carolyn and David for sharing pictures of your trip. Wonderful, wonderful! By the way Smugglers Notch is near Stowe, VT and got its name during the days of prohibition in the States when illegal booze was being transported.

Well, Bob, you did very well answering the trivia questions. You didn't get the speed limit, but I'm glad to hear that you climbed those same steps. Joggers were running up and down them while we climbed as well. You are correct in that there are more than 300 steps.

Very good, John. It is a great little road for sports cars on a nice day. I still remember clearly our little jaunt through it after the British Invasion. A good number of FABACians winding through the mountains—without the illegal booze. :-)

I believe the smugglers notch story goes back even further. War of 1812 embargo on trading with the Canadians. The people of Vermont were quite far from American centers so they commonly had been dealing with Montreal prior to the war. The embargo didn't stop them. The route through the mountains kept their smuggling fairly undetected.

Isn't 75 mph the speed limit on this end of I95? David R

Well done, David. I was surprised to see it so high. Maybe they did that to appease those who are not so happy with the major detour off I-95 onto old Rte 2.
