I have a seat open for the trip to Windsor this summer. Pat is not going this year as one of our sons is arriving on the Saturday of the show. If someone wants to go, I have a room booked at Ralph's and we could get one of the rooms with two beds...(I'm not that friendly) and the person would be responsible for getting accommodations for the Friday and Saturday in Windsor.

Thursday Evening Show & Shines
At last week’s FABAC meeting the subject of the Thursday evening Show and Shines came up. There was some uncertainty about their location this year. Report on Stanley Salmon Fiddlehead Supper
Larry, Sandi, Helen, Herb and I met at the church hall for a fine meal and conversation. The weather was perfect — quite a contrast to the Royal Road approaching Stanley. The Morgan was not impressed. My Theory on the attention given to the road's upkeep is that:
I have a solution for New Brunswick's economy and its roads. Start a make work project manufacturing "bump" signs. It will never have to shut down.
Based on locals' advice, I took the English Settlement road back. It was an immense improvement and all potholes were avoidable. Moggy and I had fun avoiding them—it became a game and we won. Sections of the highway along the Nashwaak were terrible. However, other sections were wonderful. Moggy and I enjoyed our day.

PS: Some at the table suggested that I may have distorted the truth in my earlier post indicating that I would "go almost any length not to have to prepare a meal for myself". Apparently I made it sound like I don't cook. I clarified that indeed I do cook but hate cooking for just myself. Here are a few of my Christmas desserts:
- First, they sent out a man with a cubic metre of asphalt repair. He ran out of material.
- Second, they sent a man out with a can of white paint to circle the remaining potholes. He ran out of paint.
- Third, they sent a man out with two "bump" signs to mark the worst pothole. He did.

Stanley's 24th Annual Salmon and Fiddlehead Dinner
As many of you know, Carolyn is in Edmundton for the next week so I am going to almost any length not to have to prepare a meal for myself. Not doing too badly so far. Beans one night. :-)

May Meeting Report
Hi David,
You left early and missed most of the goodness. Here's what happened.... You know that John B is now out and about and is again considered dangerous. He proved that with one of his signature quizzes (albeit a short one) that Kelvin tried to win. John was able to stump the group with several questions. Gosh I missed those. Kudos to Shirley Anne for taking such good care of him.
Gary (of course) took the floor and firstly thank Kelvin for his fine hosting of the annual St Patrick's Day party.
He relayed a request from Jim B. to have someone organize the lobster run to Lorneville again. I just happened to be in the loo and upon returning to the table discovered that I'd been volunteered. *sigh*
There was a lot of discussion regarding the Windsor show and several folks made a big deal about it. We obviously want a lot of people to attend.
There might be a salmon dinner in Stanley this Sunday (22nd). I'm not sure why it's not a firm date as I wasn't really paying attention, but stay tuned to this blog.
There will be a cottage visit to Rita & Bob's place this august 17th.
The Stanley Fair is happening on August 20th. This is always a fun and popular low-key event.
Lily Lake in Saint John will see a car show again. This is a great chance to catch up with the St John folks.
We discussed the weekly Thursday evening car shows at the FHS parking lot and thought it might be fun if a went there some time as a group.
John B will again arrange the highly popular Thanksgiving dinner at the Carter house in Kingston.
The next meeting will likely be held at Sam Snead's but watch for any changes here. If there's a prom happening that evening we'll go elsewhere since the parking lot is always packed.
During dinner there was much discussion, at least at our end of the table, about John C's MGB and it's tune-up woes. FABAC's TRS&PC will be springing into action imminently with Tim taking the lead. All others are encouraged to attend to provide support, general kibitzing and to hand Tim tools. Stay tuned for this one race fans.

Windsor car show Ferry travel discount
Great news I was able to wrangle a 15% discount off the ferry and passenger rates for the Digby crossing this summer. We need ten cars minimum for this. So lets round up the troops and save everybody a few bucks.
So in order to wrap this up we need the names the # people in each car and senior verses not senior rate class for everybody

Let me save your life! Change the way you adjust your outside mirrors.
A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to attend a Safe Driving course put on by the Lexus dealer in Saint John. I reported enthusiastically about the experience at one of our FABAC meetings, but I want to review one of the tips that impressed me the most. I was reminded of it today when my daughter mentioned it. Her work requires her to rent vehicles quite regularly and she uses this tip before she even puts the car into drive. She adjusts her outside mirrors properly. Her last rental was a Velositer which has terrible visibility. She said setting the mirrors correctly immediately set her up for safe and pleasant driving, knowing what was happening all around her as she drove.
How to do it:
To adjust your mirrors properly, put your head against the left side door glass, then adjust your left mirror OUT until you just barely can (or barely can not) see the side of your car. THEN, move your head to the center of your car and adjust your right mirror out until you can barely (or barely can not) see the side of your car. The goal is to set it up so that once a car leaves your REAR view mirror, it appears in your SIDE view mirror - and once it leaves your SIDE view mirror, it appears in your side window/peripheral vision.
How it works:
The old way of adjusting outside mirrors was to set them so you could see along the side of your car. All that does is give you yet another view of what is behind you and NOT what is further out in your blind spot. When I see a vehicle coming up behind me in my lane, I only see it in my inside review mirror. If it passes me on my left, it gradually moves out of view from the inside mirror and starts to appear in the outside mirror. In situations where people are passing on the right and left (I always think of Boston) the right outside mirror only shows what is in that blind spot further to the right.
Try it—you'll like it. Everyone in my family sets their mirrors this way now.
Have you ever seen an F1 racing driver do a shoulder check?! Nope! They use mirrors.
Something to consider: If no one ever passes you, you don't need to adjust your mirrors.

Question from Kelvin:
Has anyone been in contact with Robbie and Nettie? I know they are in Fort McMurray and hope they are safe and sound.

I just finished talking to Robbie. He and Nettie are safe in Edmonton at their daughters, and their house in Fort Mac is still intact, but fires are not over yet. Very hot and dry even here in Grand Prairie.
