On Owning an Old Jaguar

If, like me, you take your old car ownership with something of a spiritual or philosophical outlook, you'll enjoy the writings of Peter Egan.  I still have one of his forty year old articles from Road & Track taped to the wall of my garage, 'On Owning an Old Jaguar.'

Report on FABAC February Meeting

Knuckling under to the ongoing restrictions on getting together due to some darned plague, we held the February meeting on Zoom (sure wish I'd bought stock in that company a year ago).

There was a variable number of folks present but we seemed to stabilize at 14 or so.  This does
not include the three cats, one of whom was a camera hog.
Gary yelled us all down and got some business out of the way.
***We need suggestions for events to celebrate our 20 years of undetected crime***
  • One suggestion is to invite a reporter from the local paper  to accompany us on an outing.
Other planned or possible runs are:
  • John Dewitt is planning a weekend trip to the Island this summer.  We hope to connect with the PEI gang.
  • I will arrange the sugar bush run, and one to Lorneville for lobster.
  • Dan Nichols will arrange a run to the Evandale restaurant this summer.
  • There's going to be a Zoom (there's that company again) tour of Gerald Elliot's workshop.
We raised the prospect of resuming our breakfasts in Odell Park again once it gets warmer.
The monthly dinners can also resume in Carleton Park.

Several of you met Gerald on a FABAC Zoom breakfast gathering. Gerald has fascinating stories of his involvement in racing his Cortina over the years. Check out his website here: www.elliottracingatlantic.com

International Drive Your Triumph Day (February 10th)

Yesterday, Feb. 10, was International Drive Your Triumph Day.  As I usually start my sport cars once or twice during the winter any way, I thought I would give it a go.
I got all of the stuff out of the way of driving my TR6 out of the garage, and coxed the engine to life despite the -10C temp.  After letting the engine warm up for a while I took a few short drives in the neighbourhood.
I did not want to go too far and have the undercarriage sprayed with salt.  I could not help but think of the early 1970's when I drove my sport cars all winter as they were my only car.

Electric vehicles

There’s been some discussion lately at our Tuesday morning breakfasts about electric vehicles, both new and retrofitted.  This latest entry into the field might work very well for our older cars with body on frame but wouldn’t be a good fit for those of us with cars with modular bodies.

Bruce and Johanna are grandparents again 😊

Catharine and Keith have gifted us with "Dara Johanna Susan Wilson", a lovely baby girl born on January 26, 2021.

Will be so lovely to meet her once we are able to travel again.

Stay safe everyone.
