Dumfries Maple for pancakes

Sundy, Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, the twenty threed of March.  That's 11 days from now and a bare three days after the first day of spring.

Depart at noon for a 1:00 PM rendezvous at Dumfries.

As always, the inaugural season run is to Dumfries Maple for pancakes and such.
Let's meet at Miller's Ice, just up the road from where Prospect and Woodstock Road meet. It's a blue metal building on the left that has an ice cream shop there in the summer.
If you plan on going separately, or joining in on the way PLEASE LET ME KNOW.  I'll inform Dumfries so that they can arrange tables for us.
Anyone who fails to do so will be forced to sit outside in an icy puddle!

April Trip Suggestion

Update from John:
I have received a call from the Pub.
Trip to Saint John on April 12/25 for lunch at the Britt’s Pub and Eatery on 1255 Sandy Point Road. I have made reservations for 20 for 12:30pm. We will be meeting at Tim Horton's in Oromocto across from Sobeys and Canadian Tire around 10:45am and leaving at 11:20am driving to Saint John on Rte7. If members would please let me know how many will be going so I can let the Pub know how many to expect.
Cheers,
John

Previously:
I am just wondering if the club members would be interested in a possible drive to Saint John on 12 April—a Saturday—maybe having some of our members coming down from Fredericton and meeting up with Saint John members and having lunch at the Britt's Pub & Eatery Rockwood. Just let me know what you think and I will make Reservations at the pub. Probably at this early date, people will want to use their daily drivers rather than LBCs.
Cheers,
John

Next FABAC Meeting March 19th (almost Spring!)

A new place for several of us but highly recommended—El Mariachi Restaurant Bar—Mexican food and drink.
5:30pm as usual.
A little tricky to get to the first time, but if you recall the old Keddy's Motel or the St. Thomas residence and conference centre off Forrest Hill Road, El Mariachi is round the back of that property. Parking back there is clearly marked. Entrance and exit is done counter-clockwise or if you prefer, anti-clockwise. Do it wrong, and we will tease you mercilessly (I'm beginning to sound like Rob Earl!)!

FABAC February Meeting report

We met upstairs at the Freddy curling club on Rookwood Ave. in Freddy at Namaste Restaurant.  We had a large private area with plenty of room. This was appreciated by all after packing in like sardines last month.  The extra room encouraged table hopping and visits.  Sandi & Larry are to be thanked for the excellent choice of dinner venues.

  • John D. et all has planned a couple of extensive summer tours. Plans are still a bit fluid but these should be great fun.
  • Gary passed around some fridge magnets with the club logo that had been made by John D. (same gent as mentioned above).  These can be used as advertisements for the club and it's suggested that members stick them on their own cars or possibly on British cars seen in the wild.  My own tests on a similar magnet show that they will stay on a car.  They don't do well in the rain however.
  • Again, there was some discussion on advertising for the club.  Version 2,405 of the club's brochure was passed around and many revisions were penned on it. Watch for an updated version to appear here soon.
The food received an enthusiastic thumbs up from all, and combined with the large private area, I'm sure it'll become a favourite.

The next meeting will be at the El Mariachi Restaurant hidden off of the Forest Hill road.  Watch for details.

Boat Tail Speedster

The Jag forum is having a field day with this.  The brakes are no where near up to the job of stopping this thing, although it'll never get to any appreciable speed since the XK engine will shred those skimpy wire wheels as soon as anyone steps on the gas.

A card idea

Here’s a little something I whipped up on my iPhone after reading the blog. I thought Robert had a good idea so I played with this on my iPhone and here’s what I came up with for a business card and brochure for the club. If you’re wondering why it’s an MGB it’s because every time someone sees my car on the street they ask is that an MGB. I say no it’s a Triumph.

Report on FABAC Jan. 15th meeting

With 2025 barely out of diapers, we met at the Snooty Fox and earlybirds got to watch the others wander back and forth past the window, deciding which door was the entrance.
We broke records, at least some recent ones, with 23 folks showing up to kick off the new year. We welcomed Tom Fisk and Rick Morrison to the fold. Both are afflicted with MGB ownership which should help put a bit more 'B' in FABAC.
There was a good bit of discussion about the club, how it's doing and what we can do to bring up the numbers. Ernst talked a bit about far-flung owners and suggested that we have meetings/dinners nearer to them. A point that was made was that these (hopefully) new members should be encouraged to make lunch reservations near their location and invite us, as they know their area's offerings.
There were a few comments on the brochure and folks were urged to make any suggestions to the undersigned (Rob E.) soon and we'll get a few made for folks to hand out when appropriate. Business cards were another suggestion. This would be a handy item to have since everyone could carry a couple in their pocket, purse or wallet to hand out. Every office supply store carries packs of inexpensive business card sheets and the makers have templates available free on their websites. I've used the Avery versions with my word program. They can also be used in a PDF editor, or Photoshop if you want to get fancy. The onus will be on individuals to make their own since they can personalize the cards.
A point that was made several times was that this is EVERYONE's club and everyone should get involved. Advertising by word of mouth to other folks has been the main way we have gained new members. Regardless of the cars they drive or are interested in, all we really need is their interest and enthusiasm.
Our next meeting will be at 'Namaste' Indian restaurant in the curling club on Rookwood Avenue in Freddy. It has a large private area upstairs. Anyone concerned about spicy curries can rest easy. Yours truly has the world's touchiest digestive system (and take an armload of pills to prove the point), and have eaten there twice with no ill effects. Their 'mild' is truly mild while still being flavourful. This will be on the 19th of February. I'm challenging folks to bring a business card or brochure that they've printed.

FABAC brochure

Here's that FABAC brochure I made some time ago and did nothing with it. Have a look (maybe print it out) and make comments for the next meeting.   I'm also making some business cards.  I've got a pack of cards (Avery)and downloaded their template.

   Thanks!

TR6 Drag Racing

As an update to John’s link to the TR6 drag racing, here’s some photos from the British v8 meeting in Indianapolis in 2010.  The car is owned by Dale Knapke.  We were at O’Rielly Raceway in Indianapolis when Dale lost traction on the straight after running over spilled coolant and hitting the concrete wall.  He had some minor injuries but was able to come to dinner that evening with some bandages and a neck brace.  He has since rebuilt the car, lengthening the frame and hood to meet NHRA rules for the car’s class and upgrading the drivetrain.  The car will run under 10 seconds in the ¼ mile with the Ford 2.3 liter turbocharged motor.

FABAC Meeting January 15th

 Happy New Years, all!

I hope everyone made it through the holidays unscathed.
We're gonna kick off the new year (Wow...2025...who'da thought we'd see that?) with January's dinner at the Snooty Fox Pub on Regent.  It's the 15th at 5:30 PM. There's a room at the back we've reserved so that we can be noisy and engage in various shenanigans.
We hope to start a discussion on what folks feel about the future of our club. We've been shrinking as people change (or lose) interests and our collective age hasn't helped us either.  This is a problem facing many clubs like ours and I've been chatting with Ovide in Moncton about this.
If you can't attend and would like your opinion aired, please drop me a line at bobearl@hushmail.com   I'll print your email and read it to the gang. No decisions or changes are being sought, we only want to know how folks feel and we'll go (or not) from there.
