Under warm—no—hot skies, we met for our first real face-to-face meeting in Carleton Park. Everyone packed lawn chairs with David and Margo winning top prizes for the niftiest folding picnic table—home made too! The cool wind off the water was most welcome despite the occasional dusting.
Gary opened the meeting by extending his thanks to David Nielsen for his work bringing us all together online with the weekly Zoom breakfasts. Phil was thanked for the now-weekly breakfast picnics at Odell Park.
The parade of hobbies displayed on our site was noted and all remarked at the range of talents in the club.
There was considerable discussion on the possibility of having more picnics over the summer. They combine our two favourite pastimes (eating and driving), and fulfill the social distancing requirements. Everyone is invited to submit a run to their favourite spot. With the l-o-o-o-n-g days and evenings right now, evening runs would be nice.
As always, the dinner/meeting broke up too soon.
....and we didn't go for ice cream.

Do you want to come and play in my sandbox? Bring your own Tonka!
Several years ago I rebuilt and repainted our sons' old Tonka front end loader. Surprisingly, I see Joe H has done the same. He has accepted my invitation to play in my sandbox and wants to do a grader as his next project. My grader needs some straightening, rust removal and painting. How bizarre is all this!! These toys had many, many hours of rough play and somehow survived.
Great picnic last Wednesday. The weather, company and location were perfect.

Restorations
Just wanted to share with the site, that all restorations are not big! Here are some before and after shots of a vintage Tonka front end loader. In keeping with my “restorations need to be used” philosophy, this one will be going back in the sandbox

June Monthly Meeting Proposal - Wed June 17
I'd like to thank Bob E for suggesting the Odell Park breakfast meeting that we had this past Tuesday morning. As his post says it was very successful so much so it looks like we're going to carry it on.
In fact at the very end of the Odell Park breakfast meeting when only a few of us were left, we discussed the possibility of having a real monthly meeting outside similar to the Odell breakfast meeting. So for those who are interested let's try it.
As you know some of the Covid 19 protocols have been somewhat relaxed. Under the current 3rd phase of recovery (Yellow Phase) we are permitted to have group gatherings with physical distancing of 50 or fewer.
So for those interested in an outside meeting observing the above protocol, let's get together for a picnic supper at Devon Park Carleton Park at 5:30 on Wednesday June 17. Bring your foldable chairs, picnic dinner, mosquito repellent and whatever else you need to eat outside.
We will form up in a circle much as we did at the Odell breakfast meeting where we will be: PRACTICING THE 2 METER SOCIAL DISTANCING PROTOCOLS.
I'd also urge you to bring your mask and hand sanitizer. It's just too easy to get too close to someone especially being amongst friends so the additional protection should be brought and used.

Tuesday's breakfast report.
Finally!.....people...real live people. Seventeen of us gathered in a large circle that expanded as folks arrived in the parking lot at Odell park. Serenaded by the pleasant drone of large lawnmowers, we spent a couple of hours catching up with each other and admiring each others cars. The swarms of mosquitoes never materialized, and everyone chowed down and sipped their coffee.
After being stuck mostly at home with limited social circles, it was refreshing to get out and chat with folks face to face. We enjoyed it so much that we all mutually agreed to do it again this coming Tuesday (the 16th) same time, same place.
The morning was not without incident when Jennie (Kelvin's puppy) decided to go for a run and yanked Kelvin's chair over, dumping him on the ground. He's unscathed except for some nasty scrapes on his hand.

Let’s try again! Real breakfast Tuesday
The province is about give us (not just us, everybody else too) their blessing to assemble outdoors in groups of up to 50 as long as we keep our distance from each other. With summer running at full throttle, I propose that we take the Tuesday morning breakfasts offline and into the real world. Let's each grab a breakfast anything and coffee/tea at a drive-thru and meet at Odell Park for 9:30AM on Tuesday June 9th. Bring your own lawn chair. There's plenty of parking and we can assemble near the cars on the lawn.

So here is an interesting turn of events that led to the mower going t..s up.
Despite a full tear-down and many repairs over the winter the float in the carb must have stuck open. this led to a flooded air intake that was then sucked into the cylinder on first quarter turn that then locked the starter from turning any further as it could not compress the liquid. I think it is called hydro-lock???? The penny dropped when I saw the carb dripping gas from the overflowing bowl so I pulled the dripping wet plug cranked it over and blew out the gas reinstalled the spark plug and it fired on first turn of the key.
