July 15th Meeting/Eating

A stop for ice cream. Want to see more? Click here.

The July FABAC meeting was held at McGinnis Landing on Wednesday, July 15th with nearly 40 people in attendance and Prez Gary presiding. Gary began by welcoming those present and proceeded to review the upcoming tours. First up was the PEI show. Of those present, it would appear that approx 22 members will be attending. Discussion of the Friday night event at Bob
Bentley's resulted in the decision to make a donation($10/person suggested) towards Bob's expenses on behalf of the club. Jim W graciously offered to match member donations on behalf of his firm and to make the presentation to Bob. It looks like approx. 14 club members will be attending the Friday evening session. Jim B will be organizing the run over to the Island. Tentative plans are to meet at Ramada Inn with a 9am sharp departure time.

As mentioned earlier on the web site, Sherry and Curry are planning a pot-luck get-together at their home Aug. 2nd in conjunction with the visiting BATANS (our sister club in Nova Scotia) contingent. Please email your planned contributions for the meal to the hosts as soon as possible.

Also mentioned earlier on the site was the planned run to Stanley to their market. Bob E is leading and informs that those planning to attend should meet at the Tim's on the Exhibition grounds for departure at 9:30 on Sunday, July 19th (rain or shine). Bob also reminds everyone to enter his "bug splat contest". Details will be posted soon but basically take a photo of a bug splat on your windshield with the official little ruler available from Bob E. Great prizes will be presented at the Christmas party.

Approx 6 members are planning to attend the Rexton British Car days Aug 7-9. Curry spoke about the great time they had at last year's inaugural event and encourages members to consider attending.

Tim spoke of his recent purchase of a wind blocker for his MGB. He claims it is very effective, relatively inexpensive and available at Moss Motors. Tim also demonstrated the electrical schematic he has acquired for his B and has offered to reproduce it for those interested.

John B is suggesting a future tour to Corn Hill Nurseries for sometime in August. Stay tuned.

Several members have taken advantage of David N's kind offer to make up very attractive and functional name tags for anyone interested. See the posting below for details of how to order.

Bruce and Johanna dropped by with their daughter Catherine and her husband. Congratulations were extended to Catherine on her recent accomplishments on the mountain bike racing scene as she won the 2009 Canadian Mountain Bike National Championship.

Members interested are invited to view photos from Dave and Pat's recent trip to Norway. Email them for the URL to the photos.

Pat Sw informs that membership in the Canadian Association for Retired Persons (CARP)
http://www.carp.ca/ provides, among other benefits, motel and hotel discounts for those travelling.

After the meeting, a large number of members did a short run downtown and over to the ice-cream shop on Dundonald St where we were treated by Jim W to a cold one. Thanks Jim.

Next meeting: August 19th at Ringo's at the top of Smythe Street
