The following pictures where all taken with a $100 Nikon Coolpix, nothing fancy here. First, turn off the flash. At close distances the flash will overpower the shot. You're best to take the picture in
shade or in the garage with good lighting.

well despite the lack of one. Tape the ruler next to the splat, point and shoot. Maneuver the camera so that you have a dark or black background. If the interior is white, use something dark behind the
windscreen. As shown, a white background hides the splat. You can also go for grouping if you happen to collect a large volume of smaller splats.
