Official Dinner Report

All told we had 31 members who made it out for the McAdam event and they were not to be disappointed. While the trip there was a bit rushed as yours truly underestimated the overall time to the station putting us there with little time for unwinding before the meal was served. That said I think I can say with all confidence that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the wonderful and most interesting historical narratives that were presented and the informative and personalized tours of the station. It's obvious that the volunteers who made the meals, served us and presented these fine historic facilities to us did so with a pride and passion that is rare to find these days in similar funded facilities having paid staff. We applaud them all for their work!

It was evident too that there had been a significant amount of restoration work that has been done since our last visit there 3 years ago. It's encouraging to see a community get together as they have done to raise the funds and to put their own work and effort into the restoration of such an important historic facility.

During the main presentation, we were made aware that there are 2 separate train ride events that occur each summer from the station. These are train rides from the McAdam train station to Harvey and return and another to St Stephen and return. Both are sponsored by different groups at different dates. Many in our group showed much interest. We were told that once these events were announced they booked quickly but if we were interested we might be able to get advance reservations (paid in advance) by contacting the Village of McAdam. Is someone in our group interested in coordinating this? We'll discuss at our next monthly meeting this Wed evening at the Moonlight Inn (see Jim Bleakney's note for the details).

The pictures of this event supplied by David Nielsen show some color commentary of the happenings during this tour. We'll all have to get an explanation as to why Bruce is fueling his Alpine. I'm sure there is a good story behind that one!!

All in all I think it was a very good event. I'll also be sending a note of thanks to the Frank Carroll, Mayor of McAdam, commenting on our wonderful experience there. I'd like to have individual comments and would include those in the note as well.

That's it,
   Gary
