Preliminary details for Travellers to Stowe

It is time to start thinking about our Stowe trip and coordination with regards to registration and lodging have or should be completed by now for those that are making the journey (although it is never too late for others to join in on the fun). As in the past, we will complete the drive in a day and a half, taking pity on our older cars and classic bodies and make an over night stop in Gorham, NH. This is a good distance to travel in a day and makes the completion of our trip to Stowe easy the next day arriving around 12:30 pm or so. For those of us traveling together I would like to meet at our home for an 8:00 am departure on Thursday 15th.
We will travel route 3 to St.Stephen, and meet up with Bob and Donna just across the border at the Irving station in Woodland, ME at the intersection of route 9 and 1. We can gas up and continue on route 9 to Brewer with a lunch break at a great little gas bar and sandwich counter just on the out skirts of Brewer. We will make our way from there to I-95 and continue south to Newport exit 157 where we will pick up route 2. We will follow route 2 straight through to Gorham and should arrive around 4:00 pm Eastern. Our motel reservations are made at The Top Notch Motel. The adjacent restaurant serves an adequate meal and is just a 2 minute walk from our rooms.

We will try to get away by 9:00 am Friday morning and again continue on route 2 west, into Vermont as far as Danville. At Danville, we will take route 15  and then 100 into Stowe. In the past we have taken a diversion to the Cabot Cheese Factory off route 15 for a visit and break, but I believe the road to Cabot may have been affected by Irene although it should be repaired by then if we have any interest in taking our break there.

Once we arrive at Stowe, we will check into The Town and Country, take a short break and then wander over to the show site for our registration handout. It is a good idea to plant ourselves at the hospitality tent as this fills up quickly and it is much more comfortable to have a table and chairs to enjoy our refreshments at 4:00 pm onwards.

For those that are interested, there is a street party on the Stowe main street after the reception with a great Beatles tribute band playing from 6:30 to 9:30.

Saturday morning we can be up and around early to get our cars shined up before breakfast. The motel serves a good complimentary hot breakfast then off to the show site.

Saturday evening, we have made reservations at Ye Olde English Pub for an early dinner (5:30 pm was the time available when John called months ago to make reservations).

Sunday morning we can make our way back to the show site as there are entertaining things going on, but we should plan on leaving around 12:00 pm. We will travel north on route 108 out of Stowe to Smugglers Notch and onto route 15 to Danville where we will pick up route 2 and reverse our travel back to Farmington ME for a night stopover at The Comfort Inn. Monday morning, we will commence our return back to New Brunswick again taking route 9 to Mill Town border crossing, etc to our respective homes in the Fredericton area. Let's hope for good weather, but not be discouraged if the weather does it's own wet thing.

I would like to encourage some folks, if not all, to buy, borrow, or steal radios to carry with you as it does make convoy traveling much more enjoyable and safer. You are aware of Kelvin's great idea of making our trip as easy as possible, and we certainly appreciate this as perhaps we can carry a spare tire with us this trip.

If you have any questions, please respond off line as there is no need to clog up the blogsite with questions and answers.

We are looking forward to another successful trip.
