Official Report on the FABAC Christmas Party

Simply put this had to be one of our best Christmas parties we've had. Our hosts Jim and Lorraine opened up their home to us and provided us with a warm and festive welcome for our party .......and what a party it was!

The house and surroundings were decorated beautifully and provided a truly warm and festive environment. Jim and Lorraine were the ultimate hosts making everyone feel comfortable and welcome. Lorraine even entertained us while we ate with her wonderful musical abilities on the piano. Jim too ensured everyone had a dish of "Spotted Dick" to add to the festive time of year. This was the first time I experienced "Spotted Dick" which tasted far better then it's strange name imparts.

The pot luck dinner was delicious in every way with all the various foods and desserts. There was just too many delicious items to even focus on one. It was all delicious.
After our meal we all went upstairs and that's where the entertainment began. But before we got to that point yours truly along with Jim B did a year end review thanking all those who contributed to a very very successful 10th anniversary of this club. We noted our clubs success is solely based on those that contribute their time to making it the success that it is. We need more people to suggest and take on the role of tour leaders. It was also noted that we are a club that while primarily British marque in nature have always been stronger as a group with all our members including those that drive other foreign makes other then British.

With all that said we got down to fun. The first up, Jim gave us a welcoming address and then to all our surprise and appreciation he gave everyone a fine glass beer mug with an engraved FABAC club logo. How wonderful was that!. Again many thanks Jim for yet another wonderful gift. We all appreciate your kindness and generosity. These I'm sure will be shown and used with pride and with warm thoughts of this occasion and the hospitality you both have shown us all.

Following an a tough act to follow, Bridgett Vautour, one of the primary organizers of the Rexton British Car Days, made some very special presentations to our club. She and her soon to be spouse Denis came all the way from Rexton to make these presentations. These were the awards from the results of this years car show. These were the top awards which included 3 separate awards to Curry and Sherry for their Austin Healey as well as a club award  for the most participants at the show. I think it's now up to us to defend our title as the "Club with the Most Participants"  at future Rexton events. We'll discuss this more as we get into our summer agenda. I'd personally like to thank Bridgett for coming all this way to make these presentations. They were very much appreciated as was her presence at our Christmas Party. Your welcome to come to any of our events. I'd also like to thank John, Dwight and Curry for being the pathfinders in bringing this event to our attention.

From these presentations we went right into the much awaited "Yankee Swap". Dianne, as always did a marvelous job in hosting the event. We had way too much fun with the swapping of gifts and the laughter and ribbing that went on with that. Larry H now holds the record for having his gift swapped from him. Last count I do believe he ended up having his gift taken from him 4 times!  All fun and games! Some of the more unusual gifts included a "square egg maker", LED blinking sunglasses, and a pair of very unusual slippers that I'm sure Jim B will wear with pride.....on his feet we hope, although I must say I'm not sure what he's doing with them in the already posted pictures of the event!. Oh yes, the traditional MGB mud flaps made their return after a hiatus and lucky Nettie will be able to bring them to Alberta to share with Robbie. We will miss them (that's Nettie and Robbie of course) and look forward to the day when they return with the mascot mud flaps. We all wish you both the very best in your new endeavors and will miss you both.

From there yours truly as well as all those attending thanked our most gracious hosts for providing us a spectacular Christmas party, one that we will always remember.

Oh yes, I do believe, that some of the more arduous of the group hung by to experience yet more "British Pub" conversation. I'll let them tell you more about that later,

So to all, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year to you all,

  Gary
