Excellent video on the building of the 'new' Jaguar lightweights

I can't remember the last time I was stricken speechless by a film — or so darned jealous.

As a green Morgan seems to be the featured FABAC car this month, I thought I would send you two of my favourite green Morgan photos.  Taken in August 2009 returning from the Rexton day trip.  Those shots you posted showing the engine going in are amazing.

Morgan Update

Engine in. As you may notice, the engine, shaft and transmission are all going in at the same time. Open wide! Took twelve minutes from what you see in the photo to the time it was sitting on its engine mounts. Now to hang off all those extra bits that make the whole thing work—generator, distributor, coil, etc. Maybe a couple of exhaust pipes. :-)

Is someone stealing my 1968 Morgan +4 SS?!!
Nope!
That's The Stig (Kelvin P.) graciously providing his first rate trailer and wonderful assistance in moving the Moggy to join its engine. I can't begin to express my level of appreciation to Kelvin for his immediate agreement to help me—a prince of a man! We are SO fortunate to have him in our club. Thank you, Kelvin.

British Motoring Festival Update

The 6th British Motoring Festival is really coming together!  When I rashly volunteered to chair this wonderful show (more about that in a moment) I had no idea how many details are involved, and at times last winter I was contemplating polar bear wrestling as an easy way out.  But thanks to a hard working committee the pieces are all falling into place for a great weekend.  Speaking of great, the folks at Eastlink have voted the BMF as the best automobile show in Nova Scotia, and we’re going to be on TV!  They will shoot a feature show on July 11 which will air this fall on the Eastlink Community Channel, which many of us receive.

Seafood Feast Trip Report

   Is it spring yet?
Click on the picture for several more from Ellie/Jim B.
After yesterday's snow shower, spring has been a distant fantasy but today hinted at better weather in the offing.  It was sunny and sorta, kinda warm when the wind wasn't blowing enabling 7 cars to head downriver along the bum-bump!-py 102 into Saint John and then Lorneville.  Dan had the Alfa out (with top down!) to showcase the new and very red ("rosso") paint job.  There was also some new interior work and the car looks great.
The lobster fisheries was right on the shoreline overlooking the Saint John harbour and we whiled away a bit of the afternoon with our lobster rolls.  Those who had bought cooked whole lobsters made a game of seeing how many folks they could spray with lobster goo as they cracked and twisted the shells. Terry and Kim represented the Saint John area and it was great to see some old friends again.  We gotta do this more often.
The planned side trip to Ralph's place had to be cancelled due to a last minute event at his place forcing us to reschedule.  We don't really need an excuse to go for another drive downriver but now we have one.
Although it was a late start to the driving season, it was certainly a nice one.

Bob's Report on the May 20th FABAC Meeting

Despite the cold wind and rain, a pile of FABACians met at Sam Sneads yet again for the May meeting.  We are clearly chomping at the bit as indicated by the number of folks who turned up demanding runs to somewhere—anywhere!
Gary opened the meeting by thanking Kelvin for the St George's day rally and gathering.  Upcoming events where then listed as follows:
  • June 20th, the Foreign Auto Club in Moncton will host a show in Dieppe.  We have attended this event a couple of times and it's always enjoyable.
  • Jim B has arranged a run to Lorneville this Sunday for a lobster lunch near Saint John.  It will be followed by an audience with his Holiness, the Ralph of Holyoke.
  •   Details will be posted and we hope to be joined by the Saint John gang (are ya listening guys?)
  • Dwight offered to set up a run to St. Andrews and include a visit to the Huntsman Marine Museum.  This is another outing that was a big hit last year.
  • Herb mentioned a few details regarding the late summer visit to Shubenacadie race track in Nova Scotia.
  • Kelvin then took the floor and recounted the recent epic road trip to Carlisle Pennsylvania.  The extended version is elsewhere on this blog but Kelvin's Readers Digest condensed version elicited numerous chuckles from the gathering.  This is one of those events that will live on in FABAC lore, much like the first trip to Grand Manan.
  • After dinner, Johanna mentioned her planned participation in the upcoming Tour of Hope for cancer fundraiser.  She plans to cycle 650 Km in three days as part of the tour.
  • Stephen Wheatley discussed his plans for a three day trip to Grand Manan around the 21st of June.
  • Robert and Rita announced a visit to their cottage on Sunday, the 16th of August.
The next meeting will be at the Riverside Hotel near Mactaquac on the 17th of June.
The evening ended with the traditional 'John's Quiz'.  Either we're getting smarter or the questions are getting easier as the quiz was won (by Joe) with a score of 17 out of 20.

The Tour of Hope

Last year I asked for your support for my goal of raising money for the Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Care Centre in Toronto. Together we raised close to $5000. I am back again, asking for your support. But this time, the focus is a New Brunswick cancer treatment centre – the Dr. Leon-Richard Oncology Centre in Moncton, at the Georges Dumont Hospital.

In 2014, funds raised by the Tour of Hope Campaign allowed the realization of many important projects, such as, the purchase of a tomosynthesis mammography system for the Breast Health Centre, the restoring of the chemotherapy treatment room, the improvement of telemedicine services for better remote care, and the purchase of a PhocusRx system for the Oncology Centre's satellite pharmacy.

When I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March 2013, I expected that my life would change dramatically.  But I had not anticipated quite how that change would present itself.  In August 2013, while still undergoing chemo, I registered for the 2014 Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer in support of the Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Care Centre, Toronto.  It was a HUGE goal, and one which I had no idea whether I would be able to reach.  But I would not have been satisfied with a small goal. I needed something big to work towards, something that was perhaps as much a challenge as the cancer. Three weeks after I finished chemo, I started training.

In June 2014, I completed the 213 km ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls. I wasn’t stiff or tired - I was simply elated. I looked for other goals and in August, rode the PEI Fondo and in September, the Fredericton Bike for Breath, in support of the NB Lung Association.

This year I  accepted an invitation to ride the Tour of Hope, a three day 650 km cycling route from Moncton to Tracadie-Sheila (day 1), Tracadie-Sheila to Campbelton (day2), and Campbelton – Edmunston (day 3).  For the simply amazing fact that I am healthy and able to do this I credit: my GP Dr Frances MacDougall, Fredericton; my surgeon Dr Carole Williams of the Dr. Leon-Richard Oncology Centre, Georges Dumont Hospital, Moncton; and Dr. Raza and staff of the Oncology Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton. I am truly the product of multi hospital care in NB.

I am uncomfortable asking for money without giving something back. If you would like to invite me to talk about these events, or my belief that keeping active is in part why I have done so well, please call me.  My taking part in these fund raisers is my way of giving thanks for the wonderful care I received in my home province, and raising money so that others after me will benefit. I would love your support.

Thank you.

Bob E, Joe, Dwight, and Kelvin's (and Edith's!) BIG weekend

Click on Snoopy for lots more photos.
“Go left.....go left!....GO FLIPPING LEFT YOU IDIOTS!”
Edith had become convinced that we had no idea where we were going and her normally sultry tone had gotten much more insistent the further we strayed from her recommended course.
Edith (as we had dubbed her) was our GPS and fifth passenger on this epic road trip which would see us cover 2853 km over four short days.  The plan was to drive down to Carlisle, Pennsylvania on the Friday, spend two days (and no small amount of money) at the flea market, then head back home on Monday.   Friday went as planned but not without event.  It became apparent that the paper map still has a place when navigating over a long trip.  Edith generally got us along our desired route and her pleasant voice was comforting and a bit comely, but on occasion we had to insist that she shut the heck up.  Not wanting to hurt her feelings we were polite about it.  Promising her flowers and a shoe shopping trip helped considerably.   As our relationship with Edith grew closer over the next few days, we would eventually have to swear a pact not to ever discuss our brief affair...but that's another story.
Very nice Rover 2000TC here for any FABAC member who might want to add a nice sedan to their stable.
