FABAC visits Lise and Alex
I was tired of yellowing headlights!
Ok, the Lexus is 11 years old and I probably should have done this earlier. I don't believe everything I see on YouTube, but this process sounded authentic, so I tried it.
There are lots of crazy suggestions on other YouTube posts, but this is the one I followed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_yd1bbXswM
1) Wash your headlights thoroughly to make sure there is absolutely nothing on them like bug bodies, road debris or tar.
2) Put a little Mother's all over one of the clean headlights.
3) With a foam pad on the drill or other fancy buffer you might have, start the polishing process. Within three minutes you are going to be pretty much finished.
4) After headlight is looking crystal clear, wipe any residue off.
5) Apply small amount of the UV 303. Follow the instructions. End with a little hand buffing with a cloth or paper towel.
Here's with one done. (Can you tell which one?!):
Here's the finished project:
- Mother's Mag and Aluminum Cleaner around $11—yup, on the shelf at Canadian Tire.
- Mini foam thingies for my power drill around $21. You probably already have something like them.
- 303 UV Protector—I've been using on my Morgan top and tonneau covers. Bought at Ron's Auto Upholstery.

Give me a Toonie, I'll do yours for you and save you buying stuff you possibly won't need again.
However, you really should have 303UV Protectorant.
Visit to Alex and Lise
I just spoke to Alex and Lise and asked if they would like a visit from our group. They both said they would be thrilled to have us for a visit and are very much looking forward seeing us. In terms of having lunch in Nackawic, they recommend the Nackawic Golf Club. So with that in mind I have notified the NGC and they are aware we coming this Thursday for lunch. Here's their menu:
https://www.facebook.com/NackawicGolfCountryClub/menu/
We will meet and leave from the Riverside Inn promptly at 11:00am. Call or email me if you have any questions. As you all know Alex and Lise have been long time members of this club so it would be nice to have as many cars as possible attend. Barb and I will pick up Lise and Alex so we will be bringing our family car.
Hope to see you there,
Gary and Barb

Gary called us away from admiring the flood debris skulking around the area and held and impromptu meeting...
- The Stanley Fair is coming up this weekend aaaand since I'm writing this ON the weekend and it's pounding outside, it looks much like last year. Hopefully some folks while make it there.
- We were updated on Alex and Lise and it was decided to plan a trip up to their area for dinner in the near future. Dwight's in charge of this.
- A note from David N informed us that a local retirement home wants a visit from our group.
- The upcoming PEI event is now posted on our site. It involves a get together at Rustico on Sunday the 27th of August.
- The member formerly known as 'Larry' raised the once-bitterly contested idea of changing (evolving?) the club's name. Since more and more folks are driving non British cars, the new name should reflect that. The discussion this time was positive and some suggestions here made. We decided to debate this over the winter and make a decision that we can all agree on.
- The next meeting will be at Sam Snead's Restaurant (the Kingswood Golf course).
Thanks, as always, to Rita and Robert for their hospitality..... ...oh ya, I almost forgot Robert's long lost school buddy, Russ who had flown all the way from Ontario with his wife Janice to join us. Maybe we'll see you two again next year?

Stanley Fair - Saturday Aug 18
Once again we have been asked to participate in the annual Stanley Fair. As most know we have made this a signature event and have attended the fair for at least the past 5 years. I'm sure it would be very much appreciated if we could make it for a 6th year. We are always given a prime parking location and have a wonderful opportunity to show our cars to a very appreciative community. Unfortunately, I cannot attend as we have a family commitment that I dare not miss. Joe H said he would lead the group but has also hit a snag in that he might be late getting to the meet spot at the Brookside Mall . We should leave there by 10am. So we need someone to lead the group to Stanley if Joe is late. I'll leave it to the group attending to sort that out. It's an easy drive whether you take Route 620 via Estey Bridge, Route 148 via Nashwaak or Highway 8 via Penniac. All 3 routes will get you there within 40 minutes.
Larry and Sandi will meet you there and will escort the group into the fair grounds.
Hope many of you can make it. I'm sure you will have a fun time.

UPDATE! AUGUST 15th FABAC Meeting/Eating/Driving
We feel secure about the weather, umbrellas is a good idea, but we have a Plan B. Don't forget there is a 40% chance of nice weather, and if it’s raining, your cars will not be dusty.
Don’t forget your umbrella.
- Rita and Bob
This is to remind you that the next FABAC meeting will be held at 111 Nichols Beach Rd, in Canning, NB, (Bob and Rita's cottage in Grand Lake). It will also be preceded by our famous potluck lunch/supper. We will provide a chili, a dessert, beer and sangria. Bob will meet you at McGowen's Corner at 2:00 pm and we will caravan from there.
Hope to see you all there.

Landy News from Kelvin
As everyone probably saw from Joe’s pictures, the Landy is all stripped down and some interesting points have been revealed.
The engine removed turns out to be from an early series 2 and not a 3, i.e 1962 not 1974 so will remove the one from the spare car as that is period correct. Worried that the gearbox removed was of similar vintage and non synchromesh I checked the gearbox number and found that it was the original box for the car, a 4 speed all synchromesh unit. Upon checking the gearbox in the spare car it turns out that the two gearboxes are 90215260 and 90215261, consecutive numbers that came off the production line one after the other. Incredible to think that after 45 years the two end up next to each other in my yard. I thought that the chassis numbers being only 4 apart was amazing but this is even more so.
Also found out that the spare car originally had an overdrive unit fitted as well as a limited slip diff in the back end. Shame they are not still there!
Happy New Brunswick day.
Kelvin.

PEI Update
The PEI fun event in South Rustico is still scheduled for Sunday afternoon Aug 26. Included is the latest note I've received from Sandy Bentley. Sandy was one of the main organizers for the previous and much liked Brit car show in North Rustico. Here's her note to me:
"Members and friends of British motoring are invited to Danny's summer home in South Rustico for champagne, cake (and lawn games, if weather cooperates), on Sunday afternoon August 26th.
More details will be shared as we get closer to the date. Looking forward to a fun time!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I understand from Phil O, that there is a fairly large air show in Summerside PEI that weekend as well. Might be an opportunity for a fun filled weekend?

Scrap car video from UK
Interesting video of the left-over’s of a UK old car buy back scheme. Some very nice salvageable cars there, even looks like some could be driven away.

Proof of progress being made.
Proof that I'm getting stuff done. Because I'm using a later head from an XJ6 sedan on my original block, I have to plug a couple of cooling passages. Next comes assembly of the valve train and setting valve clearances. This will be followed by a LOT of grinding and polishing of the head. It sat outside for decades and looks the part.
