Fredericton Area British Automobile Club

This Wednesday is our monthly meeting day. I was going to suggest an outside meeting at Carleton Park as we did last month taking into account the COVID protocols. However, the weather forecast for Wednesday looks like more rain. So I'm rescheduling it to Thursday July 16 @5:30. Please bring proposals for what you want the club to do over the summer.

Suggest bringing your foldable chairs, picnic dinner, mosquito repellent and whatever else you need to eat outside.

We will form up in a circle maintaining the 2 meter distance between chairs and always between ourselves.

I'd also urge you to bring your mask and hand sanitizer. It's just too easy to get too close to someone especially being amongst friends so the additional protection should be brought and used.

Wanted: float for SU carb

I was getting close to starting Ole Red—my 1962 Morgan +4 four seater—and discovered I had a sinking float. Yup, gas swishes around when you shake it. I would love to borrow or buy one if you have one not being used. That would allow me to move onward without waiting for parts to be delivered. I hesitate to place an order until I have a good list of what I will be needing.

This Morgan has twin SU carburetors—type H4 used commonly on TR3s. The float is a little more than 1 3/4 in diameter.

Rescheduling Sunday's tour to Gagetown

Unfortunately the weather forecast for Sunday is not great. Where our scheduled tour to Gagetown was to be an outside event to show our cars, participate in the Gagetown street events and to picnic along the shores of the Saint John River the current weather forecast makes this all doubtful. So we will reschedule the event to coincide with a better weather forecast.

John DeWitt, our tour organizer, has already been speaking with the town organizers and he is now trying to reschedule the event for next Sunday July 19.

Hopefully the weather will be better by then.

Gathering in Smithfield, NB

Bruce and I were delighted to host such a well-mannered group ❤. Thank you all for coming, and please know that our home is your home. Next time we might even have the deck finished. 😊

Coffee at Bruce and Johanna's farm

A short note about our excursion to Bruce and Johanna’s farm in Smithfield Friday morning. As insurance against missing Bruce’s directions there was a FABAC sign on the mailbox and a pink pool noodle wrapped around the box as well. Bruce and Johanna over delivered on their promise of coffee and cookies and free parking. Johanna served cookies, squares, cheese and carrot cake plus some very good coffee and we got a guided tour of the solar and geothermal installations plus a tour of their fabulous renovated historic farm house. Bruce said that they have lived there for over forty years and the renovations are still going on. There was a very good turn out with Larry out on “parole” after he and Sandi’s fourteen day isolation after visiting family in Ontario. As well, Greg Hiltz from Saint John driving up in his very nice Signal Red Jag XJS with his beautiful young companion Ginger. Ginger is a beautiful and friendly two year old Golden retriever who is a striking red/mahogany colour.

Gagetown Outing - Sunday July 12/20

John DeWitt has tentatively arranged for us to show our sports cars on the streets of Gagetown on Sunday July 12th. He contacted the town manager there who said they would be very happy to host FABAC at one of their Sunday craft event days. They would provide us reserved parking on their main street close to the craft event.

This event would provide us many attractive points including the following:

A beautiful nearby park with space for camp chairs overlooking the beautiful Saint John River where you can bring and enjoy a picnic lunch or a delicacy from one of the several quick food outlets or nearby restaurants. John is familiar with the local food opportunities and will be able to guide those who wish to experience local flavor.
There is a regular Sunday Craft event featuring local artisans work.
We can park our cars and relax while taking in the wonderful scenery, beautiful crafts and an opportunity to show our sports cars.
After the show, John is prepared to lead those interested in an added trip to Lower Jemseg via the recently revived Gagetown Ferry. You can return to Fredericton via Route 105 via the Ferry trip or back through Oromocto.

      Barb and I will lead our group from Fredericton to Gagetown where we will meet up with John and park our cars on the designated main street parking. We'll be departing the Ramada Inn, Northside at 9:45 Sunday July 12. Please indicate your intention to participate as the town will need to know numbers to reserve the appropriate space.

John suggests bringing an umbrella or some sun cover as the main street parking is well exposed and if it's hot you will need some cover. Also please bring picnic chairs, a picnic lunch if so desired, sun tan lotion etc.

   Prepare to follow Covid 19 protocols including the 2 meter social distancing requirements and wearing masks where required.

A recommendation for those planning to attend at Gagetown

I think it would be a good idea for everyone to print up a card or sheet that could go under a windshield wiper with information about their car: Make, model, year, how long owned, owner, interesting tidbits, etc. I know I always enjoy having information about anything I'm looking at in museums, art galleries, etc.
Kelvin, you have that beautiful FABAC banner. Any way we can get it there, Kelvin? It would be a nice touch.
