Coffee with Bruce and Johanna

This FRIDAY, July 10, Bruce and Johanna will host morning coffee (and cookies) on the farm.  Tours of the solar installation and geothermal are free as is the parking!

9:30ish at 670 Route 3.  Take 2 or 102 west to 3 at Harvey/McAdam exit.. Count down the civic numbers as you will see 670 before the house and large old barn. For an alternate touring experience take the Hanwell to the Hunter Road (careful its not easy to see) and them backtrack on 3 for a bit.

All are welcome. Even spouses.

The Great Cycle Challenge

Isaac is my 8-year-old superhero for the “Great Cycle Challenge – Canada” in which I have challenged myself to ride 500 km in the month of August, and raise $500. I (because I love challenges) have also committed to match any dollars raised, so if I raise more with your help, I have to ride more. A win-win for children like Isaac.
It is a real privilege and honour to ride for him. Seven years ago, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and through the benefits of research and excellent medical care, I am here today able and excited to pay it forward through raising funds for research and treatment for children’s cancers at the Sick Children’s Hospital. I chose to ride for Isaac.
Born on May 29, 2012, he was 7 years old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on April 16, 2019. The onset was sudden: one day he had a rash on his arm, the next day – a big blotch under his eye. His father took him to the Oromocto Hospital, where bloodwork was done. He was sent on to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton and within an hour of investigation, was transferred to the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax.
During Isaac’s first surgery, they inserted a Porto Cath, through which he had chemo several times a week. Every two weeks, he had a lumbar puncture. The first 29 days put his cancer into remission. The second 29 days maintained him in remission. The third set of treatments maintains him. But he still has to have a lumbar puncture every three months.
You see why he is my superhero? He has missed a lot of school, but he loves cats, riding his bike, swimming, X-box, watching You Tube videos, AND McDonald French fries! He would love to get a dirt bike. He’s a regular kid, but a superhero kid. Let’s support him.

Mini and Alfa at Goodwood

  An interesting battle between a Mini and an Alfa at Goodwood.  Both drivers seem to running at the edge with the Mini doing four wheel drifts on occasion.  The Alfa looks like it had taken a serious hit in the rear at one point.  Nick Swift (Mini) builds very competitive Mini race cars.  There might be at least one FABACian interested in seeing an Alfa/Mini race, maybe Dan?  J

I’m quite sure that you’re not in the market for a 4 x 4 pickup truck, but if you change your mind here’s a “green” contender that is electric and hydrogen. If you need something heavier you can opt for a range of highway tractors.   Huge horsepower and torque and 0-60 MPH in under 3 seconds for the pickup.  I expect that huge dollars are also involved.

Report on Saturday's Lobster Run (or was that a Lobster Roll?!)

     Ha!, naysayers!   Despite thunderclouds overhead and a cool breeze, it didn't rain.  We all enjoyed a pleasant drive down the 102 which afforded everyone the opportunity to take in the scenery along the river.  Once at Whitetail Fisheries the gang (which included kids and dogs) dived into lobster rolls. It was a busy place but we'd had the good fortune to arrive between surges in customers.   It was a relaxing afternoon on the coast and the fog bank held off a ways offshore.
     On the way back a few of us rejoined at the small farm market just before Brown's Flats for ice cream.

Saturday Lobster Run to Lorneville

The first run of the season happens this Saturday (27th). We'll be meandering down the scenic 102 to Lorneville for a lobster take-out. https://www.facebook.com/groups/253055584863634

There are picnic tables but bring lawn chairs so that we can maintain our mutual distance from each other. Rain or shine!  We cancelled last year due to a forecast for rain and it turned out to be a gorgeous day.  Let's not miss it again...but bring umbrellas just in case.

Gather at the Burton court house (just beside the Burton Bridge) for a 2:00 PM departure.  Follow the 102 and eventually turn left onto Hwy 7.  Gain Hwy 1 towards St Stephens.  Shortly thereafter turn left onto Hwy 100 (King William Rd). Lorneville Rd is on the left not far down the road.  Watch for Luna Lane on the left. There is a sign for Whitetail Fisheries but it's not large.

Also needed...

Update: I found everything I need. Thanks to all who so quickly were willing to help. 

I don’t know why it is so easy to lose things that one shouldn’t lose. I am missing the hardware for mounting the generator as well. It was common on all the Tr series of Triumphs. I’m not sure about other cars.
