Cool January Quiz #2

OK, FABACians, check out these photos(not taken yesterday!) and answer the following questions:
1) What is the make, model, colour, and year of the vehicle?
2) What two infractions(three depending on whether you think it is all right to treat a car that way!) are being committed in the photo #1? (And hey, what's that behind the seat?!!)
3) Who are the three(!) people in the car in photo #2?
4) Who is behind the wheel in photo #3?

By the way, if you can't answer all the questions, join in on the fun and leave a comment with as much info as you can supply.

No snow tires in the winter and no front plate for the infractions....I'm not good on MGB years but pre rubber bumpers so I'll guess 71? Joe

Not bad, Joe. You got the year pretty close. But in the late '60s and early 70's there was only one license plate(Those were the days!) The infractions question was related to the first photo which, by the look of the clothing, was not a winter shot. So, good for you for coming up with an infraction for photo #2. Wait now! Were snow treads mandatory in the early 70's--I don't think so.

The car is parked beside a no parking sign, door mirrors are covered up, Straw bale in the back of the car, 1970 MGB Regards Rob.

Good, Rob. You got the no parking sign. I missed the mirrors being covered. Good one. So there is still another infraction. Not sure that you can't carry hay in the back. Not a 1970.

I'm thinking that the other infraction is related to the one way arrow and the car is going the wrong way. Hay orstraw shouldn't be a problem, I seem to remember a pic years ago of a B with a goat in the back. Is it a 1969?

That's it, Phil--arrow points one way--car points the other. A goat would be an interesting passenger--are they co-operative in moving vehicles? I have no experience with that sort of thing.
Now, if we could only get the year right and the names of the people involved. No one has tried to name the colour yet either. Hmmm...

I haven't had a goat as a passenger (yet) but I expect it it would be a bit of grief getting the seatbelt on it! I forgot about the colour...I think it is Blaze Red, what might pass for orange in some circles. I'll take one more run at the year....1972.

It is indeed a 1972, and I think you are right with the colour although the age of the photographs may belie the true hue. Those interested in seeing what colours were available back then should check out the following:

The colour was actually burnt orange (If memory serves me correctly)???

David Nielsen said...

Hmmm. I didn't find a burnt orange listed/displayed at:
http://www.mgexperience.net/article/bmc-paint.html

They have scanned original paint charts from that era--interesting site.

Would the person at the wheel in photo #3 be a Mr Alders?

Right on, Bob! At our last meeting, Curry was telling me that they had come across these old photos of his brand new 1972 MGB. Neat stuff. I wonder where that B is now?
