PEI Friday Night Event Is Back On

This blog item started out this way and we do appreciate your feedback:
Since it appears that there will not be the traditional Friday night event preceding the PEI car show, you should post a suggestion and get a discussion started. Just click on "comments" at the bottom of this posting. What do you think would be a good activity, meeting place or run, for that Friday evening?
However...
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Friday night event appears to be back on. Read the latest comment from Ralph H. by clicking on "comments". You should note that it is mandatory that you register for the Friday event by July 19th if you plan to attend. The details are all in the letter. This is a separate event from the International Motoring Festival which takes place Saturday and Sunday.

I'd suggest maybe meeting over at the small shopping plaza at the Borden Carleton bridge crossing and then take a ride over into Charloettetown, maybe to the park where the show will be?

The Pines motel has a bunch of barbacue pits, is situated on the water, has NO mosquitoes, and a beautiful view of the bay. The propriators are wonderful folks who I'm sure would welcome a gang using them. I'll call and ask. We had a most pleasant conversation when I booked in last month.

How about meeting early afternoon at Borden-Carleton, then a short poker/rally run through points of interest, perhaps to the western part of the island and to the Pines Motel for a BBQ as suggested by BB.

I remember the first and only show I attended a few years back. The Friday night supper was amazing. Seeing all the cars - trucks on the hill side was a sight to behold.
This was a show that was projected to be outstanding in growth to that of cars shown would receive an INVITE to attend. A field museum where only the Barrett and Jackson level cars would be in attendance according to a repeat winner at the event.

I understand that numbers have been in decline not due to economic downturn but in the event itself.
Since I'm not attending I would merely advise that anything you do as a group has a central location where everyone is located. It was very awkward for me to be part of the group when I was 20 kms away all by myself the year I went.

Subject: Friday Night Event for British Car Owners ONLY!!.
British Car Owners & Enthusiasts

By now I am sure that you are aware that Confederation Bridge as the major sponsor of British Car Days has moved away from its exclusive support of an all British Car Show for something slightly different - an inclusive motoring festival which would include many makes and models. The format of the show and the activities will vary from what we have been used to and have developed over the last 10 years. We have to recognize that the goal of SCBL is to bring traffic across the Bridge. These challenging times demand a level of creativity.

We believe that the International Motoring Festival could turn out to be an exciting event in which we play a major part. We encourage all to visit the website for this event at www.peiimf.com and register for the show.

Now what remains of British Car Days across the Bridge? We have been able to secure that ever-popular Friday night location for our all-British car group, the Bentley homestead in New Glasgow PEI, the epi center of MG’s in PEI.

This is what we propose to do:

1. A light meal will be provided including refreshments. The menu is still under some discussion but when we ran this in the past (the first 9 years) I don’t think we ever let you down?

2. There will be participant’s choice judging sheets handed out and the top car will be awarded the Village Green Participants choice award (Tankard).

3. Prizes will be solicited from British parts suppliers and handed out during the course of the evening.

4. The event will be on Friday July 24 starting at 6:00 PM until dusk or later if your lights are working!

5. There will be no charge for this event but we may ask for donations from the clubs attending to offset the costs. At this time we are estimating 100 people will attend but will reserve a decision on donations until we know the final numbers.

6. Registration for this event is entirely separate from the registration process for the International Motoring show. You must register by July 19, 2009. Names will be kept and tickets provided upon entry. No exceptions will be permitted. Registration must be done by email by contacting Bob Bentley at rbentley@pei.sympatico.ca.

British Car Days and the journey of British Car Events on PEI have provided us with many memorable moments. We invite you to join us and to continue the journey.

Sincerely,

Daniel Tweel,

Bob & Sandy Bentley
