Notes on the FABAC Meeting September 16th

On Wednesday, September 16th, about 30 FABAC members met at East Side Mario's in the Corbett Centre for our regular monthly meeting. As usual, there was much good cheer and animated conversation as people caught up with the latest on each other's lives.

David N once again initiated a "What's in the bag?" contest with the winner being bestowed with a liquid refreshment compliments of John Bo.

Prez Gary welcomed all present and called the meeting to order. First on the agenda, Gary (on behalf of he and Barb) thanked all those who turned out for the Nackawic picnic and dessert run on Sunday past. It was a great success as is attested to by the wonderful photographs elsewhere on the site.

Next was a discussion of future tours. From Jim Bl was a suggestion to consider once again travelling down to Rockport, Me for annual car auction at the Owl's Head Car Museum next August. It has been a few years since the club attended this event and there appears to be strong interest in going down next summer. Because of the distance, it is anticipated that this would be a one or two night trip. More discussion will follow and will be led by Jim.

David N spoke of the impending visit to Fredericton by Roy Locock who is driving his MG Midget "Bridget" around the world to raise money and awareness for UNICEF. It was encouraged that FABAC members contribute to the cause. Whilst the meeting was winding up, it was discovered that Roy had indeed arrived and plans were made to pay

him a visit at his motel at the conclusion of the meeting.

An "Octoberfest" run is being planned by Jim Bl. Watch the web site for further information.

A run to St. Andrews is being planned by Pat and Bob S. The date is to be Saturday, Oct 3 and will include lunch in St. Andrews. Watch the web site for details.

After breaking for a few minutes for the food orders to be taken, the meeting continued with the results of the "What's in the bag" contest. After several close but incorrect answers, Tim correctly guessed that it was an adjustable "muscle wrench" and claimed the spoils and honours.

The next meeting will be held at Mama's Pub on Brookside Drive on Wednesday, October 21. Bob L to coordinate.

In the "show and tell" portion of the meeting, Bob L with the help of Prez Gary, unveiled a beautiful painting of Bob's Citro
ën that he had been presented as a result of his car's fine showing at the PEI car show this past summer. The painting was done by a PEI artist. Congratulations, Bob.

Next up Curry briefly spoke on a few items. First was an update on his efforts to improve the current NB car license situation with respect to the seasonal plates. Curry is working at challenging the new $50 surcharge for the plates which is reportedly being attributed to administration charges. Curry will keep us apprised of his efforts.

Then Curry gave a brief update on the 2010 summer Eastern tour by the Austin Healey club of Ontario. Curry has invited the club to consider passing through Fredericton on their tour and they have tentatively accepted. More on this later.

Finally, Curry reported on their trip to the British Invasion British Car show in Stowe, Vt upcoming this weekend. Club members attending will include Curry and Sherry and John and Shirley Ann B in company with 4 or 5 other NB couples.

Addendum: Margot suggests a tour to Evendale to dine at the Inn there. Details to follow.

Gary encourages members to continue to come up with impromptu tours. These have been quite successful in the past.

It seems that Alex's autobiography has gone "missing". Would whoever has it lease contact Alex(575-2584) or
David N.

The meeting concluded with the manager of East Side Mario's dropping by to thank us for our patronage with a generous offer to discount our meals and to invite us back again at some time in the future.

Bob S.
