How good are security cameras?

Modern HD motion detecting cameras are incredible. This morning mine gave me twelve frames of a bird flying by. Here are two of the frames—the second showing the bird about to land near the eave of the garage roof.

This is a Dahua 1.3 Megapixel 720P (approx $100) which I chose because it was compatible with the software program that I wanted—Security Spy.
